My neighbor complained about my *stock* M4 exhaust and then threw a rock at my house

So i bought a 2018 BMW M4 last year and moved into a new construction neighborhood this past March. My next door neighbor moved in about a month after me. Back in early spring he was complaining about the noise of my car and asked if i had an aftermarket exhaust system (which i dont). I told him there really wasn't anything that could be done but i limit the amount of time i spend in the garage to 1 minute or less to keep the noise down for everyone.

He then started complaining to the homeowners association last month. Once they told they wouldn't get involved since it's a stock vehicle, he threw a rock thru my dining room window (we caught on video footage). He was arrested. Now he's suing me for being a nuisance and wants a judge to prevent me from driving before 7am or after 10pm.

This whole thing is so obnoxious. Has anyone else had neighbors complain about their stock M4?

Also you can watch him throw the rock thru my window and also watch him use his iPhone to film the noise of my car at www.billsiegle.com.

Dude. Sorry you're having to go through this. Having a crazy neighbor is very stressful, your home should be your sanctuary of calm and peace. Make sure you have cameras all around your property

Yep as a result of this we had to install cameras all around the house. It sucks but i'm keeping the car. This is my favorite car i've ever had.

That's sad OP hope all the best for you. I have a 18 zcp without m performance exhaust and I think it's way too quite(I start in sport plus every morning), I never thought my car could cause any noise disturbance. Just out of curiosity, what car does your neighbour drive?

Thanks man, appreciate the support. He drives a new Infiniti QX50 suv.

I haven’t had any complaints but I do think the cold start is unnecessarily obnoxious. I know you can code it out, but it is pretty loud for a stock car at first start.

Did you have problems with him before the car? These cars are not so loud to cause such behavior unless someone is mentally unstable and / or there are other disputes going on.

This is unfortunate but most people don't get how loud some stock cars can be. I don't know if I can entirely blame the neighbors.... Owning these cars are a double edged sword.

There are louder vehicles in my neighborhood, including an Alfa Romeo 4C driven by a seasonal resident. No one has ever said a word to me about my 2015 or 2018 M.

I haven稚 had any and I think your neighbor has other issues (as has been mentioned). If it isn稚 the car, it値l be something else later. How do the neighbors on the other side of him get along with them? Good luck OP, this sounds nuts.

Maybe not complaining about the noise, but to throw a rock through a window?

Wow. That sucks. No complaints here, but the houses are on 1+ acre lots. I do leave the throttle in comfort in the mornings until I'm out of the neighborhood. GL.

I haven't had any complaints but I have to admit I cringe a bit when I turn the car on at 645 AM most mornings to head to work. I leave the garage door closed for a bit but I'm sure it is still LOUD as hell on startup. I'm on really good terms with my nextdoor neighbors but sometimes I wonder what they really think...

I'd get a restraining order against him based on the rock throwing incident.

I only ever spoke to him twice since we lived here. The first time was an introduction and the second was a complaint about the car.

He filed a cease and desist against them.

Any idea for what? Unfortunately it sounds like you live next an unhappy/fairly unstable person. That really sucks and like I said it値l be something else down the road. Even if you were to get rid of your M4, which I知 not saying you should do.

He didn’t like they were talking to others about how he got arrested for throwing the rock

Since you seem to be dealing with a mentally unstable person, I'm guessing the website isn't going to help resolve the dispute.

The F8x is really loud at cold start but oh well. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere you will always hear the occasional sound from a neighbor. Whether it's a car starting or a dog barking or music playing it's just something everyone needs to deal with.

As others have said, your neighbor sounds like an unstable person I would just continue to be as cordial as possible with him while hopefully your HOA can perhaps do something about his actions. He sounds like the type of guy who would get violent if provoked.

ps I occasionally leave pretty early in the morning and have small kids that the car would wake up. I got a tune with cold start removed and it makes a world of difference.
