Oil Filter Housing Gasket

Did a search and have not gotten any hits on this being an issue on the S55.
i remember it being a problem on my 08 335i with the N54 and have seen it being an issue on the N55 also.

Looks like the same design basically. My car is an early build F80 (July 14) with 40k on the clock .

Anyone experience any issues as of yet? These new M's been out for a couple of years and this seems to be an issue with these modern BMW's going back awhile now.

I have an F80 M3 with 61k miles and just discovered this with my mechanic when we did the oil change today. I will keep you posted on how it goes. I have the Maxcare warranty from Carmax so plan on putting it to good use!

Rubber gaskets will eventually fail and start seeping oil out around 60~70k. soft rubber gasket being torqued down between to solid objects and going thru heat cycle causes rubber gasket to turn hard almost like hard plastic which at that point starts to leak oil since it can't seal it anymore... oil filter housing, valve cover gasket & oil pan gasket are 3 main service item that needs to be done at one point past 60k... oil pan gasket holds bit longer since it uses gasket made with metal and rubber...

If it doesn't leak is it a BMW?
On my E60 550i I just recently fixed a 1600 dollar alternator bracket leak (labor intensive) which was the first leak that had me almost tow my car. It was literally pissing out oil until my light turned on, refilled 2 quarts and immediately went to my local independent shop.
Besides that, I've also fixed VCG x 2, transmission pan seal x 2, OFG, upper/lower timing cover gasket, all in 120,000 miles. Joyous.

5+ years in on my 2016 F82 and its bone dry as well but miles are low.

Has there ever been a BMW gas engine in the past 30 years that didn't leak oil? Always the same issues with every engine so at least we and potential buyers know what to expect.

True. Right now I'm not motivated to fix our 335's OFHG and OPG. I'm pretty good at cleaning it off with Brake Kleen from Walmart every couple of weeks. It's such a major PITA doing these gasket jobs especially dropping the subframe ugh!

Do OFHG! Oil can seep onto belt and could suck it in through seal. Hame over! OPG? Yeah, until you slip in garage, not worth it.
