Set out below is an old one I found on my Mac, it goes way beyond what I have ever done but might be of interest
Delivery Inspection Checklist Prerequisites: • Small torch • Tyre pressure gauge • 30 cm ruler • SD cards Consumables • Is the manual and service book present? Is it in english? • Are there floor mats? Good ones? • Is the litre of Oil in pouch included? • Main and spare keys? Options (Check for inclusion and condition of): • list as per spec Paint Work: • View paint work straight on & at an angle for blemishes or inconsistent colour • With your bare hands touch and run your hands over all paintwork • Check exhaust pipes and fuel-filler cap are not marked • Check adjoining panels aligned properly. • Check for consistent gaps on panels, particularly bonnet and boot Wheels/Tyres: • Check all tyres and alloys for chips or damage or nails • Make sure tread is correct way on all wheels • Check the tyres for sidewall lumps • Are there wheel locking nuts? Check condition • Is the emergency tyre repair kit present? • Are the tools present in the boot ? Interior/ Electrics: • Open all doors, windows, roof, bonnet and boot and all ok open/close • Check condition of leather - creases, incorrect colour shades, scuffs, stitching faults? • Check ALL switches and correct functioning of equipment? (Any marks or scratches?) • Check all INTERIOR lights • Check the alarm • Check Sat Nav • Test the Bluetooth preparation • Check all EXTERIOR lights First Drive: • Check all fluid levels? • Listen for rattles, esp. rear shelf? • Check for correct gear change and any steering pull? • Find out if the dealer has balanced the wheels? Paperwork: • Confirm car set to appropriate service regime. • Road Tax • Warranty documents - do they need signing? • Note down the delivery mileage • Book 1200 mile service

That's a brilliant check list, thanks for that.
Although I think some of these may not apply if not picking up from your local dealer? Some of us are picking up from quite a distance (eg Tony at Berry Healthrow) so unless the car had a major fault that was noticed on pick up or fixed/botched bodywork (like the guy on f30post) then some of this stuff would be rectified by your local dealer, I think. (or so I've been told in the past!)

Agreed, but I would want the known faults recorded somewhere, such as paint defects. Otherwise they may say it was done after the pickup.

Yes you are right. Once you drive it away, certain rights to complain will go out of the window, to an extent.
