bootmod3 flash tune platform - announcement
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com 1) Map switching among pre-loaded maps whether OTS or customized by the tuner of their choosing. 2) OTS maps including optional M4 GTS maps/features (e.g. exhaust overrun/burble) 3) TCU programming maximizing clamping pressure in DCT transmissions allowing factory and aftermarket clutches/upgrade to maximize their torque holding potential 4) Backend flashes for popular piggyback tunes such as the JB4 5) Datalogging of any and all available data from any module in the car starting with the DME that BMW has exposed for datalogging on the vehicle's communication bus. 134 channels we are working with today 6) Custom tuning by any professional tuner as well as end-users on the platform. PTF will use the bootmod3 device platform for tuning similar to how we use MHD and the Cobb AP on the N54 and E series N55. All tuners will have access to the same released table definitions exposed by the bootmod3 contributing team including any enthusiast community contributors. 7) Provide end-users with ability to perform all/any of these features without visiting a dealer or tuner location - do it in your driveway or while at the track 8) Allow for real-time monitoring/live dash of any loggable data channels 9) Exhaust flap control from within the app 10) Diagnostic Code Read and Clear, Adaptations (ECU) reset 11) Provide re-sale value in the flasher device - Currently non-existent with any of today's bench flashes and only possible with piggybacks. What this means for end-user is when ready to move on to a different car/platform the device can be uninstalled from the car and sold/reused by the next customer recouping a portion of their investment 12) Android and iOS apps - We didn't want a laptop being a necessity in the car to use the device. Full control/logic over all features will be provided through Android and iOS bootmod3 apps. Apps will be a free to download and all feature updates will be delivered via the iOS and Android app stores. 13) Apps and the device communicate over Wifi, similar to how the GoPro mobile app works with a GoPro camera for instance. No wiring in between the flasher hardware and the phone/tablet. 14) Flash back to stock performance map or OEM factory/original software allowing for putting the LOCK back on if required Datalogging allows for tune customization. Tune customization without our OBD flasher device, while possible today, requires very expensive tools and software licenses only intended for shops professionally doing this work. In addition, in most cases shops doing custom tuning work on this platform pull the DME multiple times to apply any changes on the bench making costs prohibitive for the end customer. Some choose to go through a very manual and highly human-error prone process to apply changes without pulling and bench flashing the DME risking issues. bootmod3 platform will be available to any professional tuner looking to offer custom or OTS maps without being tied to PTF in any way. They will have the ability to offer open or locked maps to their customers while the platform stays tuner agnostic/independent and open for future development. We are looking into building a bootmod3 map editor as well as we're not too happy with TunerPro and its lack of map editing/adjustment features (e.g. smoothing table cell values is really poor) as well as its dependency on having to use a Windows machine. More to follow on that front as well after the initial release.. Here are some of the datalogging channels we have access to, 134 to be exact, at this point in time: Accel. Closed beta release very soon which will be followed by a wider public beta.
We have been staying away from posting in the forum due to priorities on the development front. With multiple software development paths from the UI side, OBD protocol side, reverse engineering, while also making our new/existing N54 and N55 customers happy with custom tuning it is not easy to also keep up with the forums. In the meantime we will update this thread with updates as we go to keep you guys informed and answer any questions as best as we can. |

However, we are gaining ground in this area on a daily basis and when/if OBD-jailbroken it will be incorporated as a convenience feature. We have documented the unlock process in detail. Once the DME is out it takes no longer than 60mins to complete. There is absolutely no drilling/tapping that we've seen some shops do and the DME looks as it came from the factory when the lid goes back on. Once unlocked, the world is your oyster with your F series, full control and transparency over any/all running parameters and you as well as your tuner will be able to make the most out it |

This is clearly for guys who don't give a flying F about that obstacle like most that get a flash tune or those that push with a JB4 and want a solid backend or like me that wants to be able to switch my maps and play with tables myself, turn off cold start, run E85 or meth, try some GTS features, without ever needing to pay over and over again to a tuner. I don't need a tuner telling me what or how my tune should run. I've tuned my own cars always but I'll take advice from anyone experienced and share my data out with anybody willing to provide input. Can't wait to tinker with this sh!tt

I like the tunability/custom tune issue of it. When/if it does count, I will definitely be interested.

wow i'm loving so many parts of that list.
phone apps. resale value of physical device vs flash tunes. map switching from device vs cables plugged into laptop or JB4 method. we need an ETA though. i hope its out before the end of the year. |

So this will be available remotely? I really want to have the extra clamping load on my dct gearbox but I'm in Australia...
And it goes without saying that I want the GTS over run etc... |
