Which car should I track - F83 or 911 997.1?
I want to get started going to the track - i just want to have some fun and don't want to get too serious.
The F83 convertible is a DCT with some minor bolt on mods - 9k miles. The 911 is a 2007 C2s 6speed manual with 24k miles. I really am thinking the 911 is what I should take, but not so sure, as the F83 is easier to drive fast, but the suspension and weight work against it. My local circuit is about 2.5 miles long. |

It’s the extra 500 pounds working against it. I’ve never seen a convertible on the track around here unless it was a Miata or S2000

Your cars -- which keys do you want to grab? I'd go with your first instinct.

If you had an F80 or F82 I'd say track that for sure, but yours is an F83
In your first events you're not going to notice weight or anything else, either car will be wildly above your (or anyone's) capabilities. So whatever you prefer |

911 will have a higher cost of disposables such as brakes, however, the f83 isnt cheap either.
Overall, the 911 will be much more competent due to weight. I would choose it. |

If it's your first time, take either one. Which one do you have more time with behind the wheel even on the street? I'd also lean toward the DCT. For the first time it will be about learning the driving line. Driving line is everything. Speed will come automatically. And once you start to speed up, the mods will commence. Neither car will be free from mods. Camber on the F83 will be found with front camber plates and an alignment ($600+150) . Camber on a 911 requires GT3 control arms ($1000+150 I think).

I think I should start with the DCT to learn the track, then move up to the 911 once I get to know the racing line. |

See that green GT3RS... he shoulda blew by both BMWs... but he didn't. Capability has nothing to do with it until you learn the track. Have fun, get out there, treat others on track the way you want to be treated. Your trophies are at home.
