Abnormal Michelin PSS Inner Front Wear

Is this something that can happen during normal driving? Both front tires are affected.

I'm stock height, with 12mm spacers.

The edge of the bottom spring perch is in line with this wear on both sides. Am I crazy for thinking this is somehow rubbing?

Could this be caused by spacers? My current thought is that if spacers weren't installed, the wear would be there, but 12mm closer to the centre of the tire.

Have you had an alignment recently? this looks like the result of an excessive amount of toe out in the front. Also, if the spring perch was rubbing you would see damage on the spring perch itself.

No alignment has been done since purchasing CPO in May '20. If toe out is the culprit, should I have a case in saying this was misaligned prior to me purchasing, as both tires are wearing identically?

What year is your car? And what sort of driving do you do?

I had exactly the same issue happen to me and I’m trying to get more info to see if there is a pattern.

Doing a search you will see we are not the only F80 owners that see this.

I was told by the fitment centre that it is toe and straight line driving that does it. My toe was slightly out on my wheels when I had the alignment done. I also do quite a bit of long distance highway driving in my car.

I daily this car. I would say 60% is HWY KM's, 30% mountain passes, 10% spirited runs through the twisties.

Yeah, if toe is too "out" you eat the insides and to "in" you eat the outsides, depending on camber. If your camber is perfect and riding the wheels properly perpendicular to the road then too much/little toe will eat the whole tread instead of edges.

For $200 a dealership alignment can be very valuable because if you have tire issues afterwards then you're more likely to get dealer goodwill. It's also a small cost to know your tires will hold best in the turns and also to wear evenly.

Pretty much what I do as well. I got 50k km off my set of tyres though before that happened. The rest of the tyre though still had so much meat left on them.
