Speed cameras in NJ?
A quick interweb search tells speed cameras are not used for issuing tickets in NJ. Anyone know that for sure? Today while on a easy cruise around the area I was, slowing down from a 45 into a 35 zone. I came up to a temporary radar -your speed is- sign tagging me at 40. and saw it strobe/flash, and it had what looked like 3 cameras on it at 90 degree angles. Should I expect a request for mandatory donation in the mail?

several years ago NJ authorized the temporary "experimental" use of radar speed cameras with the stipulation that at the end of the trial period permanent implementation would require specific legislation to be passed. as the (likely) result of multiple lawsuits brought in NJ and other states on 4th and 6th amendment grounds, not to mention widespread fears of massive revenue harvesting by local governments, that didn't happen, and the program was dropped.
pretty sure Maryland still does it though because, well.....(political comment self-deleted) |
