has anyone used R888R on their M4?
ok. M4 Comp pack. 20" 666 wheels. Has anyone tried fitting the 285/35 R20 100Y to the fronts and the 315/30 R20 101Y to the Rears of an M4? Will they fit? Anyone know? Many thanks

The rears might fit (probably not)... but I'm 100% sure you're going to have a bad time with the front. You might not even be able to move with that size. The 285/35/20 is just about 28" in diameter. And why do you want a larger diameter tire on the front anyways? That staggered ratio is going make your DSC have a seizure.

285/30 front will rub when you turn. not to mention 285/35.
i believe op has typo of 285/30 instead of 285/35. but either one not going to work. |

Regardless of the tire size and not knowing your intention, in regards to semislicks the Toyo is the worst tire you can install. Tested last year compared to Cup2 1. place, Sport Maxx Race 2nd, Trofeo R 3rd, Advan Neova 4th, R888R as not recommended at all with beeing very weak in the wet and not able to keep up even with standart tires for dry breaking! Go for Cup2s for dry use and track days or I recommend the Pilot Sport 4s for street and wet use as DD with some track time. As we in Germany having the chance to drive on our Autobahns with no speed limits and on really challenging country roads almost nobody ever thinks of getting R888Rs on a car. Maybe only for a show car cause of the look of the tires but then everybody knows this is not for serious driving. Just my opinion. I changed from Pilot Super Sport to 4S and very happy! Tried the Cup2s also but not as good in the cold and wet!

That’s hard to believe. Look at all the record setting half mile and mile runs set by the 2000+ hp Lamborghini Gallardo/Huracans and GT-Rs. Most have been on Toyo R888 tires. Granted, that’s straight line traction. In the GT-R world (where I come from), all of those tires have been used and R888 (and it’s cousin the Nitto NT01) are decent track tires. Some of it may be related to the GT-Rs enormous weight which obviously affects how other tires perform. I have some friends that run in the Global Time Attack and they use the R888 or (preferably) the NT01, so I wouldn’t say it’s a bad tire. Availability of sizes may also play a role too but either way, it’s a decent tire.

R888 and R888R heat cycle out very fast. Once they do they are very hard to drive on, break loose rapidly, and are generally not much fun. I had a set on a race s2K that I literally threw in the trash after about 8 heat cycles, they were actually that bad. These are very different tires than the NT01 (love), RR, RA1 that are part of the Toyo brand. Toyo just missed with this tire badly.
On the plus they make them in a ton of sizes. I so wish they would redesign the carcass and have all the sizes.

I’m a little late, but to add to this. The R888r and R888 are the exact same tire, just with different treads cut in (Per Toyo). They heat cycle out in 8 or less heat cycles and they are dramatically worse at that point. I went from consistent low 1:01’s at Lime Rock to consistent 1:05’s or worse. The RR’s on the other hand are solid through 20+ heat cycles. A lot of people are switching to the RE-71r’s.

Chiming in as well... during the ownership of my M4 since 2015. I've tried a variety of different tires from PSS's, NT01, Advan Ad08r to r888 and r888r.
Although I'm not a tire expert, I've done canyon driving, track days and "Mexico trips". IMO the r888r's have hooked the best by far from various power outputs (550whp-712whp) in straight line speeds and held up fine for a few track sessions and street driving in between. I could agree that the life of the tires do seem to wear out quickly. But by how well these tires handle our platforms crazy torque, I believe it outweighs the short life span. Once again this is my semi-uneducated opinion, but I will never run any other tire on my F82 (probably on my 6-7th set from changing out my wheel set ups). I believe even Kratos mentioned for anyone would like to run their turbos to run r888r's or Mickey Thompson's as Cup 2 and 4s's were spin city. There might even still be a post/video on their Ig regarding this. |

If you track them and get the whole tire all the way up to temp (200+ degrees) and then cool them a few times (my experience was less than 8 times on 2 sets) they fall WAY off. This is a full heat cycle, not the heating you get with canyon carving or straight line work which they appear to be immune to. I tossed the first set with about 1/2 the tread left, the second I gave them an additional 2 HC and had about 1/3 of the tread left. Don't get me wrong, they are great before they HC out and if you don't track them they may be a great tire. If money was no object, a shaved set of them would be a great solution for time attack where wear rating is factored into a car's rating. Just make sure you toss them after 6 HC.
