Question Differential Output Shaft Seeping

Was told by dealer that Right Differential Output shaft seeping and was told it would be $1730 to reseal both output shafts and get an alignment. The SA made it seem like I can just wait and see what happens during my next service date and said it didn't need to be fixed now. Any thoughts on that?

depends on how bad it's leaking. If it isn't leaving drops on the floor every time you park I would not worry about it for now

What is strange is that I had the car inspected by BMW (paid for a PPI) and they did NOT say anything about it and then when the car arrived to my home state I took it to the local BMW for a complimentary check and they said it is seeping...Had I known from the PPI they would have fixed it free of charge...

I'm kinda pissed and thinking of calling the BMW who did the inspection, but probably not gonna do anything about it...

What happens if you don't get this fixed? Anything other than leaving spots on the floor to look out for?

It gets worse and more fluid comes out. You run the risk of having low diff fluid which can cause you to break the differential due to lack of lubrication.

probably keep seeping forever or till it becomes a leak. Mine was found seeping last year when I bought the '15 I have. It had 24k on the clock but sat for a long time. I forgot to pressure clean it to monitor but it is still there 1 year later and I am at 37k now.

It would have to be a decent leak to affect the level enough to cause damage. Yeah in a perfect world it would be bone dry but I wouldn't worry about a dampness around the seal as long as it wasn't liquid if that makes sense.

Sitting for a month may have made it weep slightly as the seal may have grabbed as it moved off for the first time. BMW seals seem to leak more on the infrequently used cars than the daily drivers, that's not to say exclusively this way but seems more common and has no factual backup just a hunchI tend to swap between the m2 and X5 every few weeks to stop them sitting too long.

If your wondering the misses drives the m4 so I read all three forums mainly

As a follow up, took it to a local trusted BMW mechanic and showed me it and said it is so minor that he would not worry or even have mentioned it. Once I told him that they didn't say anything in the PPI, he said he wouldn't have either had he seen it the way it is.
