It bothered me the way this guy was driving was very erratic with damage all over the car. That stopped me from driving around him when I was on my way back home in my 4RS.

The weird thing is, I drove past one accident scene past the 710 on ramp, on the 10 where the very damaged car looks like it got T-boned somehow, and I ran into this white, damaged SUV now on the 10 freeway going the other direction. The dude swerved through 4 lanes multiple times before speeding off through cars. This happened at around 11:40 - 11:50 PM, Saturday morning, way before the accident.

If it is the same person, this maniac was already driving like this hours before driving the wrong direction on the freeway.
Did you happen to get a plate off of the white SUV?

Sadly I didn't. I wish I had setup my dashcam for my car but I haven't got a chance to.

The only thing that I kept on seeing was how damaged that white SUV was, side mirrors and all. I hoped that he was dumb enough to keep going on the toll road so maybe one of the cameras there would catch him. I know he sped off on one but I lost sight of him after.

I was thinking about calling 911 when I saw this but didn't know how to describe it so I let it go, not to mention since I was in my 4RS, I think calling through bluetooth would be probably too loud for me to even be heard over the phone.

I was literally on my way back, doing my circle around the area and had a Lambo (of all things) following me when I had to slow down even more behind that white, beatup SUV which caught my attention. At that point I was on the right most lane and this guy was moving between both of the right 2 lanes. Which made me iffy about driving past him. A few minutes after I noticed his... lack of driving skills and how badly beatup his car was made me suspicious due to the accident on the other side of the 10 freeway. Then he started erratically driving even more once we got past where the 710 freeway officially joins the 10 via on ramp. He went through 4 lanes like twice before speeding off on the toll road.

I thought about calling this when I was driving but I didn't. Then when I got back home, I saw the news in the morning about some driver going the opposite direction on the 10 and made me wonder if this was the same person i ran into.

Yes, they gave me $38K and I kept my 21" style 741M wheels, which I can probably sell for another $2K. These are selling for high-30s to low-40s so it was a no brainer to take the money and run.

That said, I'm not sure an R1S is worth $80K compared to a G05 X5 50i at $38K. If we didn't need a third row, there's no way we would have made that trade.

Definitely a lack of good 3 row SUVs.

test drove an x4 m40i over the weekend. gotta say its a very impressive package. i rotate between a .2 gt3, new civic, and m2 comp... so driving the x4 was super comfortable and quiet by comparison. well damped and i didn't find it overly firm some mags say, maybe because i am just used to cars beating me up lol. the b58 gives plenty of poke, less than 1/2 second behind the m2 comp 1/4 mile time. it can run on 89 and still return 30mpg. the stereo was lackluster imo for a car like this and the steering feel is zero to non existent. i threw it through some corners at speed, it handled it, but you have no idea what the tires are doing.

debating on getting one now. but will probably wait to see what the 2025 x3 refresh brings.

There are some good value approaches to inducing steering feel.
Some monoball control arms, upgraded sway bars, strut brace. Those three would placate some of your fear in this (steering feel) regard

The fact that people increasingly feel the need to do this to a vehicle with 30 "M" badges plastered all over it is the reason I no longer drive a BMW.

I was given one as a loaner this week. Nice interior, brown leather/black exterior. Worst driving position and wicked turbo lag. Felt like a larger X2. Same B pillars too, you rack your back during ingress.
No thank you.

I 100% agree.

Unfortunately, some of us are several years of hard work (in a collapsing economic system, no less) away from arriving at that reality

The larger crowd I find are the ones that slap a tune and DP on a B58 G chassis vehicle and claim its the greatest thing ever in the lineup. Granted I've seen some M340i and M240i hauling some impressive straight line speed, they typically don't give a shit how the their cars corner as they prefer point and shoot type of driving. The arguments online of the the B58 is better than the S55 always makes me smile as a vehicle is more than just its engine.

That's the crowd of BMW that makes me shrug as I track my F87 occasionally and also daily it and the only thing in the current lineup I enjoy for its dual purpose is the G8x but I'm still not overly a fan of its design though its chassis is a real beauty minus the weight penalty on consumables.

Obviously different people appreciate different aspects of cars, and that's perfectly fine by me. I personally don't get much out of straight-line speed, but love driving a responsive car on the twisty sections of Hwy-1 where I rarely even hit 50mph.

I used to think I was an acceleration junkie, but then I ended up leasing the Tesla M3P during covid (when somebody wrote off my M4) ... and that thing blows away the M4 and even my 992 GTS in a straight line. It's perfect for city driving - but terrifies me on twisty roads because there is ZERO steering feel, I know the thing weighs 2 tons and only stays on the road through software written by ppl Elon Musk hires on the cheap. I have no desire to take that to the track (perhaps a skid pad one day)

It has taken me 30 years to finally be in a position to get my first 911, and when I take that to ThunderHill or Laguna Seca I finally see what I had been missing in my M4. It's just so much easier to drive, so communicative and responsive, and doesn't go through a set of tires/brake pads in a day.

I understand this sentiment. I have always loved the 911’s, but I didn’t get it until I drove one…….for awhile. It is just a different experience.

…and I’m adding these to my C2S. Shipping soon! Yay! My AeroKit wing is at the paint shop too. Finally I can see the light at the end of the mod tunnel for my 992.

Thanks brotha! I was looking for a set with Chalk stitching - which is hard to find - and with Porsche crests and got extremely lucky. The set I found are basically in like-new condition.

I wish that were true. lol! The house had to come first. GT3’s still sell for close to $300k here. If I set the HRE’s aside (…because I would buy them for a GT3 as well), my mod list looks something like:
  • GT3 Touring decklid: $3700
  • GT3 LWB seats: $14,000
  • GT3 RS door straps: $700
  • Bilstein EVO SE coilovers: $3700
  • AeroKit: $5200
  • Exclusive Option leather wrapped interior pieces: $3800
  • Various fees for paint, installs, etc.: $3000

The total is around $35k rounded up.

I’m on an “MSRP list” with Porsche Santa Barbara, but I know that’s 3 years away; my SA connect was honest about the timeframe. I would rather drive my C2S in a configuration that is similar to how I would’ve optioned it from the factory had it not been for the stop-sale’s in place at the time of order.

I am in the same boat but with the Cayman/Boxster instead.

Honestly I never had my eye on the 911. My friend was the one that got me interested in the 718. We were at the LA Auto Show at the Porsche Lounge the year the 718 GT4 and Spyder was officially unveiled. That got me interested over the 911.

I'm not even sure if I mentioned this but the time I was ordering my F80 M3 at Irvine BMW in towards the end of 2017, I actually COULD have gotten a 991.2 GT3RS at close to (if not) MSRP at that time over my F80 M3. I ended up choosing not to because I... just didn't think about the 911s. I really thought my BMW was it. The market at that time was saturated with them, even though Porsche pulled back on producing the 911s at the time, there were still quite a lot of them. I kept my photos and videos of me test driving the 911.2 GT3 but I never drove the 991.2 GT3RS because I never asked. I know the GSM ended up selling the ones on their lot at MSRP because they wanted to move them (my CA told me) and if I remember correctly, the market at that time was very good for cars.

Heh. Weird how things turn out some times.

If you know your CA is trust worthy then just wait for it. A change in from analog gauge to digital shouldn't be a huge deal. Though I am more concerned about the exterior looks atm than anything lol. Some of the leaked photos of the 992.2 hybrids looks... uhm... sus (quoting my generation).

The market shifts are interesting for sure. I actually considered the GT4 back when they were first introduced. I built out a few via the configurator to wrap my mind around it, but I kept coming back to the 911. Porsche offers something for everybody. Lemme drive Alice!

I was just joking with you...but I get it. If you can't get a GT3 - maybe bc the 992 model times out before your name comes up on the list - you can be very happy with your spec. Car is phenomenal!

I got to take the mint monster on her first road trip up to Mammoth. Got blasted in a windstorm on the way back. Bunch of tiny chips...un fun. Metal escaped nearly unscathed. Headlights took the brunt.
