If the stains are bad, you'll most likely need to compound them out. I'm not as much of an expert as others on here most likely, but depending on severity, it could be a very challenging job.

My hard water stains were pretty bad and had etched the clear coat. Soaking in straight vinegar wasn't enough to get them out. By hand, using Meguiar's Scratch-x and then ultimate compound on the worst areas was necessary. I did this by hand and had to apply using a cotton shirt to get enough leverage to get the stains out. It would be best done with a dual action polisher if you have experience using one.

Depends on the type of water spots you have. Some will wash right off and others will require some compounding to remove. The longer they sit the more damage it may do. Reason for compounding is over time it'll etch the paint so you'll have to level the clear coat.

Edit: I don't do anything special for the roof. When I took delivery I just took my DA to it to remove swirls (Carbon roof) ceramic coated it and then used a topper. I use a silica based spray after my washes to help protect the coatings and does what I need it to do. Garaging the car is always a plus.

I had to use my polisher to get them out.

is this also water spot "damage"?

Hello Guys,
I am new in this forum and have been reading quite a bit on removing water spots.
I have a question: If you see in the attached image my car has a water drip stain under the side mirrors. Is this also a type of "water spot"?
And does the usual methods to remove water spot work in this case? I am not sure which compound I should get.
Thanks!

You can try (white) vinegar or lemon juice. try a small spot at the bottom before doing the top part. I do not know what the commercial products are available for this although I am sure they are out there.
