Epoxy vs Polyaspartic Garage Floors
Hi,
I've finally decided to do some sort of epoxy flooring for my garage (vs swistraxx). There are two kinds from what I'm aware. Both look the same (pls correct me if I am wrong). Installers generally seem to prefer Polyaspartic because its a quicker application. Some still prefer Epoxy though which is a longer application process. So, for those who are obsessed, what do you prefer and why? Separately, what are the things that I need to check for when talking to installers. Any particular type of application process I should ask them if they do? i.e. number of coats, type of coats, name of their product, etc. I don't wan't them to install the stuff you get at Home Depot if you catch my drift. I also have seen some coatings where there aren't many flakes. I want it to be nice and flakey. Lastly, I was thinking of a lighter gray color. Anyone have a color like this and regret it? I drive straight into the garage (i.e. no turns to get into it). Thanks!!

there was just a discussion on this ~ i have light beige no regrets ~ decided to go with a light application of flakes ~ didn't like that rough texture or look i paid 4k for a 3 car and they also went up the wall 4" *one thing you might have them check is if you have any moisture in your slab ..... |

I also preferred a gray undertone, but light flakes. You can choose between full (common with the poly finish), heavy, medium, light or no flakes. You'll also choose flake size: 1/8", 1/4", 1/2" or even 1".
I chose the 1" (personal choice) full flake called schist. This is a marble product. It'll add some slip resistance. Mine will be installed in about three weeks. I'll take a picture if interested. Three car ~$4K installed and guaranteed for life. Good luck! |

Here is a picture of the schist flake sample. Right pic is 1", left is 1/4" (I think). I really like the look of this type of flake. Again, I'll go full flake coverage.
Of course, you can goole it for better pictures. I'll post pics of my garage floor once complete. According to the ad, poly is "20x stronger than epoxy". Certainly dries significantly much faster - within 24 hours. We'll see. I'll be happy to share my experiences. |

What’s underneath it, just plain concrete?

Thanks. Been thinking about doing this for a while. My home is 23 years old and garage needs a refresh (floors and walls). The through of taking everything out of the garage is what always stops me. Doing it when new is the way to go.

Yep that’s what it would take (plus removing the water softener and filter). Just a matter of prioritizing.

Key thing I hear is to measure moisture on the garage floor to ensure good product (epoxy or poly) concrete adherence.

I have light gray polyaspartic with no flake and love it. It needs an occasional mop but it’s worth it.
