M4 Exhaust Question

So Ive had my car since LAbor Day this year so about a couple months now and im still learning the car. My warranty just expired last week. I just noticed that my muffler may have had the "fix" done but im not sure if its a proper fix and I need some input from the experts here or anyone else that have had this. It looks like it was "fixed" but i dnt see anything on the carfax indicating that it was done under warranty by BMW. If it does not look like a proper fix what do you guys suggest I do here?? The cars been working fine and great so far.

Does this look like a proper fix for the exhaust issue with the cracked pipe?? Also Ive attached photos of the otherside as well for comparison that does not seem to have had that problem.

Thanks for input

That doesn't look like a proper fix. Doesn't even look like it's titanium weld. Is there a bracket added to support the weight of the tips? If there is not, then the crack will return at some point.

OK thx. What do u recommend to get it fixed properly or can i wait until it breaks?? Also how much does it cost approx. to get this fixed properly. Theres no bracket on there either.

Also whats a good indicator if\when it breaks?? Im guessing it would be significantly louder and maybe loss of power?

Thanks in advance

That was not fixed, they didn't weld it properly. Not even close.

You won't lose that much power, it is only an exhaust. You will just hear strange noises from your exhaust that is generally the indicator.

Your best bet is to ask a any shop near you that you trust, or is well known to deal with BMW M cars. Just say your exhaust cracked and see what they say. There are a few photos floating around here that will show you how a proper weld is done to these exhaust cracks.

Last but the most obvious is to just straight up buy an new exhaust. Either aftermarket or maybe MPE which would replace the rear muffler section.

Ok Thanks much for the info. I didnt think it was good fix just looking at it. Im wondering what Im expecting to look at as far as cost for a fix. I did find something somewhere on this forum with pics. Ill look for it again but i think it had some reinforcement bars welded on as well.

LOL!!!! Funny that was my initial thought. I was like WTF is that JB WELD on there LOL!!!

No laughing matter now Im stuck with the bill. Hopefully im not looking at at a big hit in pockets. Depending on cost i may look into a new exhaust like Arcades suggested.

Thx

Dude...I'd just go buy an aftermarket exhaust at this point. That looks crazy and like someone did a whatever fix on it in their basement somewhere.

My MPE exhaust had a horrific rattle at about 1,100 RPM. I found a local shop that cut into the top, and welded up the loose baffle, then closed it up and reinstalled it, all for about $400.

Couldn't be happier with the resolution.

Ill be shopping around to see if find a muffler shop in my area and see and hear what they say. See if they have a good experience and maybe can handle this job.

If not ill just have to ride out until i can get a MPE exhaust but from what im seeing so far looks like comes as whole unit. I just need the muffler exhaust.

Well the news just keeps getting better. Im looking around to see what it would be to repair the exhaust. Come to find out i have the Titanium MPE exhaust which i thought was stainless steel but they tried testing it on a small area and the weld would not stick SMH. Now ive gotta try and find a place that specializes in welding Titanium. Also they said the otjer side has a small crack as well.

Did you buy the car from the snow belt? Wondering if salt played a factor in how that looks.

I'd just source a new exhaust or at least price one...check the classified forums and hell its Black Friday AND Cyber Monday. At least you'd know what you had and that it was properly installed! My 2 cents. Good luck OP!

Hello All,
So my initial issue where i found my MPE titanium muffler with the crack issue has reappeared. I had it "fixed" welded by a shop about a year and half ago and now the crack is starting again. Does anyone know where i can get a decently priced MPE exhaust or any sites that sell just the muffler part?? I do not need the full exhaust system. The ones ive seen a waaay too expensive!!! Meanwhile Ill see if the shop will have and hinor some kind of warranty and repair it.

Thanks
