So Do Others Try and Race You?

Hey guys sorry if there is a better thread for this already but I couldnt find it lmk. Im newer to having a car that is considered a "race car" by some. I still have my 335 which is about 300 give or take, and very sporty, but for as long as Ive owned that car I never felt like other people tried to "race" me as much as they do in the m4 (not really asking to race upfront but lining up at stoplights with me on purpose, reving to get my attention, skrting tires at me, you kno what i mean). Is it because they see it as a racecar or something?

I had a couple hondas and lexuses do this back in the day when I would be driving around in 335, but i just chalked it up to too much testosterone and playstation. Now tho, whenver Im in my f82 even coming home from work it feels like way more people want the sauce, from dads in minivans to new supras/kia stingers/genesis and especially other audi merc always wanting some.

I dont mind it, giving a couple schoolings now and then, and whooping audis is pure bliss imho
But idk do y'all feel like with your M cars people just try an race you more often than in your other cars?

And Happy Monday btw!

Happened pretty rarely in my M4.

But in the 2021 Supra that I have, I have people revving and trying to race me maybe every 2-3 days. Always some young 18-24 year olds in WRX's, Mustangs, Camaros, Focus, etc. I dont even give them the time of day.

All the time, and denied every single time.

Zero reward and ultimate risk in street “racing”. Shit is beyond retarded.

If I wanted to see how crappy of a driver I am I’d go to a track and get lapped by Miatas.

In my experience, the color makes a difference. I had an Austin Yellow F83 (2015) and everyone wanted to race. Was very annoying.

I now have a Mineral Gray F83 (2018) and really can't remember the last time some idiot in a Mustang or whatever wanted a go. It is quite nice to just enjoy the drive without some punk wanting to mess with you.

Yes, and the other car is almost never something formidable - sporty looking Camrys, 370Zs, Civics, and the like. Generally lame and annoying… I've only bothered with a Alfa QV and a Subaru but otherwise I haven't entertained it

I've barely even had anyone ever give a passing glance at my car and that's fine by me. It may have something to do with the area I live in. Soccer moms are out all day long in 911s and Panamera's. An M4 is nothing more than just another "BMW" around here. If you are in area where they are less prolific then this kind of thing probably happens more.

Honestly, the only type of car that ever tries to race me are Teslas

And admittedly, its quite annoying, because they'll only ever try to race or tail gate you when its a straight open road but never ever bother you when you hit the twisties

Lot of Tesla owners are a bad mix of superiority and inferiority complex

I live in Michigan, and every truck and American muscle car on the road tries to race me at all times, of every day lol. Ok thats exaggerated, but it still gives you the idea.

I gotta say, it's incredibly immature, a bit dangerous, and something I always make sure to do... is blow their freakin doors off. Haha I WILL race you.

I just can't help myself.

I had my M3 for a couple of months and none of that happened to me. Although, before the F80 I had a Civic Type R and that thing was a magnet for idiots on the road, SPECIALLY Mustangs....it was frustrating and I hated it, but again, I was driving a car meant to have that reaction on the road.
I guess the M4 is more prone to that because is a coupe? and people associate coupes with sports car?

I am in CT and a fascinating observation I’ve made is that not ONE, and I literally mean zero, Tesla has attempted to accelerate, zip off from a stoplight, or engage with me (or anything or anyone lol) in the last 3 months that I’ve been paying attention. There are Teslas all over this state, with the S’s and 3’s being seen in my daily drives over a dozen times. Not one time have these cars engaged or “shown off” even slightly. It’s absolutely baffling Especially considering how fast they are and the # of drag strip videos posted by their owners, etc. I’m at a loss.

I don’t have the desire to street race or be an idiot, I just find it perplexing that I haven’t seen one of these electric rockets even hint at their power. Has to happen eventually, they can’t all be 85 year old retired doctors

The demographics of Tesla owners is changing, as used ones are making their way to the younger racing prone folks - just like our M cars - except M cars dump in value far more than a Tesla! I would say in a few years we will see more 20 something kids with used Teslas. I think they are fugly, but fast, many faster than our M4s! Oh, and will more and more shop working on Teslas, rather than the dealer they will be more user friendly.

Absolutely, and constantly. I admittedly do enjoy the people taking videos/pictures while i'm driving, wanting me to toss a rev, but the harassment I get from random cars is annoying.

Same here. I don't think it's due to area, but I essentially get zero attention in my Jahre. It's not very flashy, exactly the way I like it.

Yes and no. Haha.

In the F80 I get mostly other BMW dude man bros trying to race. 335i guys especially. I get the feeling 335i drivers feel it is their job to represent all 335i drivers, and that you don't need an M3. They are just as fast with a few BO's.... oh well... Oh yeah, there is also the BMW Dad who had to get the "family" car, so he settled for a X3 M40i or the like. I laugh a little inside at all of them....

When I had any of my WRX or STi, that was the worst. Everyone wants a piece. It was so annoying cuz as other has stated, street racing is for morons.

I don't get a lot of people trying to race me, but I dont use the highways often, and only commute a couple miles to work. A few notable ones were: I had a Dodge Hellcat try and race me on the highway with my 8 month old in the car. I couldn't get him to leave me alone until I lowered my rear window and let him see my kid in his car seat. Also had a kid in a F90 M5C try and race me in town a couple weeks ago. Like he literally followed me around on 25mph roads wanting me to floor it. He kept lurching forward so that I could hear his burbles. I wasn't exactly sure what he thought I was going to do...

I actually get a lot more people wanting to race me when I'm driving my Honda S2000 - which is boosted and has a large intercooler in the grill - and it's usually BMW drivers that try and bait me to go. I always see other F80's when I'm in the S2k - and never in my own one - so I instinctually wave to them and they just look at me all confused.

I have an Alpine White f80 located in Central CT. It's like as soon as someone spots me, they see the Nurburgring…..

Today on my commute home a kid in a red WRX pulls up next to me on the highway. He rolls down his window and starts giving me sarcastic Wows and then proceeds to cover his face in fake disbelief lmfao and then he downshifts and tries to speed away

One time an old man in a 911 launched on me at the light when I was driving my moms x3 m40i. Since the b58 burbles like crazy in sport plus when coming to a stop (He was lucky my mom was in the car)
