New M3, any way to know if crankhub was done?

As the title states, i purchased a new (to me) M3, dealer doesnt know if the crankhub was done or not. I plan on doing it, but would love to know if its already done so i dont waste money. I tried googling vin to see if previous owner was here or posted about it at all but nothing.

Is there any other way to tell, other than just pull the crank hub? The car clearly was tastefully modded with CF parts and such so figured since its such a common thing they would have done it?

You can see if there are wrench marks on the hub nut! You can also see if the car was tuned by seeing if the HPs were increased on the display!

No way to KNOW without looking…or tracking down the previous owner.

Get a stick mirror and look for a crank capture plate. If one is installed you're good for an E85 tune. If someone did a REAL good job there's a hub fix is under the CBC.

Bolts on top of the hub, locks it down and stops the crank bolt from loosening - rendering the hub only susceptible to the friction disk itself failing which is practically (but not theoretically) impossible at OE power levels under normal circumstances (even still works with light tunes based on anecdotal examples from the forum). At higher power where an actual hub fix is warranted, the CBC can (and probably should) still be used to keep the bolt secure.

I think it would only be a common mod or fix if the car was modded and tuned, not everyone goes for more power.

if its a manual, take it on a free way, get up to 5th gear, rev to 7000 rpm, then dump it into second gear (money shift) if the hub doesn't spin, chances are that the crank hub was done, if its DCT, do a kickdown

I think being on forums makes people really overestimate the extent of modification on an average car. This group has to be the top couple percent in interest in that stuff.

Lol, facts

More than half just pump and dump this car. They have fuck you money.

Cant stand the second hand owners have a brain aneurysm over if the crank hub was done or not. You are paying 3k for a problem that will cause maybe 4-5k of damage. What kind of nonsense is that.

Anyways not directed at you op. Gotta roll the dice in life.

You have to go under the car and take out the pulley to see it. Otherwise, there is no way you can tell it is done or not. If the car does not have any power mod done to it, I am pretty sure you can assume it hasn't been done yet.

Problem is that it can be hard to tell if a power mod was done if it's purchased used.

It's hyped to put fear in you so shops can make $. Unless your at 1000hp I wouldn't bother with it. Actually bmw did the crankhub to fail as a safety measure.
