The R3 product is cheap as hell so that's a fit with my detailing interest. $9.99!

I'll be giving the R3 a shot this week. Anything will help, as the car is absolutely covered in rubber.
The M235iR was a fantastic purchase. We did an oil change + brake flush and sent it on the Pirelli DHHBs that it came with. Been a while since I've played with slicks, it was a learning experience to say the least. Livery from the prior owner still on the car. At some point I'll wrap the car. Step one is just cleaning up the vinyl/decals. Poor audio but the car does sound pretty decent in my opinion. It's loud as hell inside, and the cockpit resonates something fierce between 3000-3300 or so. Basically never run below 4k This was a shakedown for the car, and I primarily wanted to let my old enduro Miata teammates drive the car. We plugged the Catalyst in to just try it out, and I was impressed. I didn't have the audio hooked up since 1) racecar with no speakers 2) forgot my bluetooth headphones. However the post-session information was pretty useful. I need to dedicate a few days to just get comfortable with the car. I'm not used to having what felt like infinite grip, so I kept pushing things until I spun the car on turn 8. T8 is my damn nemesis with the GTS, it's a very tight 2nd gear corner, and I just ripped the rear free with the M235iR within 3 laps of turning off traction control I'm very excited to learn more about this car. I'm probably done tracking the GTS, the M235iR was a lot more fun. I guess that's the difference between racecar and street car, even if the racecar is down ~180hp. |

BTW, I forgot add, be sure to stay off the curbs and rumble strips with the Pirelli's when the tires are cold. Give them a few laps to heat up and build pressure. The sidewalls are easy to cut down when cold.

Good to know, I'll keep that in mind. I took it real chill the first ~3 laps out, I'll make sure to make that a rule moving forward. How does that work for a race? No tire warmers here, so just avoid curbing on the first lap or two?

Its hard in a race and not always easy to do, but I try to warm them up the best I can on the out lap. Even then it can take a lap for them to get to temp.

It's been a while, and at this point I'll likely just start posting somewhere in the track sub-section. Porsche put out another teaser for the 718 GT4 RS. It looks incredibly appealing to say the least.
Bath day for the cars. I'm gradually removing the previous owner's vinyl from this car, and I hope to get it in for a full wrap this winter. I've taken to driving the M4 on the street a good bit, up to ~3500 miles on the odometer. It still brings a smile to my face but it's hard to enjoy on straight 55mph roads. ASAP Tire is a neat tire mounting service that services the Denver area via Tire Rack. Highly recommend, it was a great experience not having to lug wheels around to get stuff mounted. Advan A052s are soft as heck. 265/35R-18 on the 18x10 BBS for the M235iR was an incredibly grippy tire with stellar lap 2 and 3 performance, but we achieved just under 300 miles on-track with them before I had the tread delaminating from the primary construction on front and rear. I rotated them aggressively to wear evenly. Not ideal for a practice tire with a bunch of novices driving it as well. I have a set of the Continental endurance tire on the way to try out next. Swapped from the PFC-08 to the PFC-11, and I think it was too aggressive of a pad for a 200TW tire, especially for novices. Just a bit too much bite vs the PFC-08. The kiddo loves his cars, so we snagged a used C7 Z06 for him to sleep in. I don't know how I feel about this. Racecar Portrait mode as I had planned on posting to instagram . My dad came out and we lapped the car a bunch in October. That's probably it for this year with the GTS. Drove it on Tuesday in 35F weather and it was wheelspin city through 3rd. I have one more planned lapping day with the M235iR and then it'll get torn down for some refurbishment + wrap work. A few folks have DM'd me asking what I think of the M235iR, and I'm 100% sold for what I do. For letting novices drive on track it is such an easy car to drive with all the nannies on. People have a ton of fun, the car is easy to drive at 6/10ths, and consumables have been reasonable. When I take it out and drive 8/10ths or faster the car has been incredibly easy to catch when I cook a corner. I'm still ~2s/lap slower than the M4, while being down ~150-200hp, but I already know where I can find several seconds. At this point I'm exploring corners by just sending the car into the corner +5mph and feeling it out. This eventually yields very controlled slides where I know to back it off a few mph. |
