In the E90, you go go into "M Drive" and then hit "options" and configure the start-up settings (associated w/the key). Doesn't appear this is an option. So, I guess I'll program myself to punch M1 (twice) every day when I hop in.

Why is it efficient sport sport? Doesn't make any sense. Who would drive like that? And also having two M buttons doesn't make any sense if we have to put our default settings in one of the buttons

This is probably my biggest gripe with the car. The fact that you cannot program the start-up configuration is a nuisance. The fact that the default start-up in Efficient/Sport/Sport just does not make sense to me is a bit more frustrating. It would have been much better to set it as on the M5/6 with everything in Comfort at start-up IMO.
What I hate even more, is that when you turn off an M-Mode (either M1 or M2), it returns to that bloody useless default start-up setup rather then remembering where I left it (as it was on the E9X). This gets me upset everytime . BMW, please fix this for us through a software update . Last edited by CanAutM3; 08-30-2014 at 12:04 PM.. |

I suspect the reason to default throttle response to Efficient on start up is to get better EPA mileage numbers.

I would think efficient throttle mode at startup is for two reasons.
- Required to use efficient mode as EPA mpg as mentioned by CanAutM3. - Best mode to warmup the engine for optimal durability and minimum warranty claims. I also understand the default sport steering setting since the comfort mode sucks. With sport being default there is no risk test drivers and reviewers get the wrong idea of the good parts of the steering. It's perfect for me since I like efficient throttle mode and sport steering best for daily use. I don't need to push any mode button which make a difference for me. I can just pretend that all this mode nonsense doesn't exist |

I know it's not a solution, but if you don't need your wife's settings paired with her key, you can have one key that has your DD settings with M1 for your relaxed driving mode and M2 for fun. The other key can have your optimal seat position and M button settings you like to use at the track. 4 M buttons for the price of 2.

The default key can have relaxed driving settings associated with M1 and fun settings for M2. The track key can have tighter seat settings associated with it (such as side bolster) an M1 setting for mid-aggressive track driving with MDM deployed and M2 with DSC fully off along with different configurations. But you're right, you can't use both keys at the same time. |

...and I thought I was the only one frustrated by this set-up. Bottom-line is...I'll probably get over it. Next I have to get over not plugging the key into the dash even though I didn't get comfort access. I now have to look for my key every time I get out of the car.
However, when I hit the gas and the turbos spool up, I forget about all of this. |

I find the best start-up setting for me is EFFICIENT (throttle), SPORT (Steering), SPORT (Sus).
Steering is too heavy in comfort for me, and I like the sports setting on the suspension. But I don't need to rip it down to work so I prefer to save gas with efficient. no problems defaulting to when starting up like that. Then M1 is ALL Sports +, Manual. and M2 is ALL Sport, AUTO. |

Help here setting defaults
I can't find the way to set up a default setting for my throttle, shocks and steering wheel, I've tried almost everything without any luck, I would love to get all 3 settings to start in comfort mode when I start the engine, but the car keeps changing my settings to the one's shown below, any hints?

It's not possible to change the default settings without coding. Your best bet it to set one of your M buttons the way you want and push it every time you start the car.
Many are frustrated with this, and I hope BMW will update the cars so we can change the defaults.

you cant change the default. you can only adjust the M1 & M2 buttons on the steering wheel.
Most people set one to what they want for daily driving and the other for more fun spirited driving. |

Is there a way to set all the setting on comfort so when the car turns on i dont have to manually do it? I have my M1 and M2 all set up, but i cant seem to find a way to set up the way the car turns on. And right now its efficient sport and sport.
