If you get the executive package than that $950 charge for the extended leather is $0. So it's basically a wash which makes the decision some what difficult.

Are you getting the exec package though? If not, then it's a tough choice.

Leather. But I feel like the other colors make the car look much more upmarket. I have seen tan extended and black full in person and to my eye the tan looked much more upscale. Black looks washed out IMO and hides details

Regardless, on this car I feel like extended is a very good value.

I tend to agree, however don't you get contrasting stitching with black, but not the others?

I think the colored leather looks more upscale. I wish you could get the leather dash with Speed Cloth.

My latest understanding is that with other colours than black, there is no contrasting stitching on the the coloured leather, but you get contrasting stitching on the black leather portions (door handles, door panels and driver knee pad). The contrasting stitching is in the selected colour of coloured leather.

If you get full leather, contrasting stittching is also present on the black leather over the instrument cluster and the glove compartment (lower dash).

If you search for M3 pictures of either the Montreal or Toronto auto shows, it had extended Silverstone leather and you can see where the contrasting stitching is applied (see below).

exactly. the m4 I saw in person had the extended tan leather but had the same exact type of stitching on the door handle. really looks nice.

Cloth is more functional: better grip when driving hard, better breathability, better wear. Leather looks more upscale. If impressing 20-somethings matters, get leather.

You forgot to mention that leather is also far easier to clean/resistant to stench. If you'll ever have kids in a cloth car you'll need to shell out for some seat covers before they get in. That said, with the perforations (or are they just dimples?) in the new leather it may not be quite as clear cut

Speed cloth is a somewhat different animal than 'normal' cloth seats in this regard; highly resistant to fluids, but surely more of a pain if you dump a cup of coffee etc. in it than leather would be. I have been pretty happy with the leatherette, don't have to worry about anything with it, but it is not grippy enough for my taste. Good Q regarding the perforations in the new seats.

I cant resist the new leather smell. Plus if anyone has noticed, the leather in the M cars are a bit nicer than the standard bmw cars. I love how soft they feel.
