That’s what I usually do, sometimes I forget the order though.

Hahah yeah, that one always gives me a good laugh. I agree, the i8 is not easy to get in and out of and those door sills must take a beating.

Haven't seen this vid; that was painful to watch and I felt bad for him

Adds up to ~170k USD including destination fees. I still have a few months to finalize my spec (will need to freeze around March)
Ohh! Congrats

Be prepared to struggle with the new PCM. Porsche made it extremely... er... irritating lol. The infotainment itself is good, trying to get it to connect to everything is a big pain in my rear end I will probably avoid the hassle if I were you.

I know from my extremely recent (30 minutes ago) personal experience.

BMW is definitely the benchmark with their iDrive. Anything else seems like a big downgrade.

Oh you have NO idea.

I know they (Porsche) is trying to personalize the experience and make it all neat and stuff but holy crap is it annoying.

Two apps to get some stuff to work on your car. Not one, two. Why? Who knows. They want you to get an App to check your connection and stuff. Then another app so your car can use the app to use certain apps in the car. One is to connect to the Porsche Servers, which may or may not be working. 2nd is for certain apps like Weather... etc. Otherwise the new PCM won't have the weather, and other gadgets working. Again why two? No idea. We as BMW before never had to do this unnecessary stuff before. Hell, didn't even need to do this on our Macan S.

I literally don't understand why the annoying complicated process.

Really just remember when your Turbo comes in. They are required (your CA) to walk you through this. Once you start seeing how complicated some of it starts to be, just use the PCM as a regular infotainment and ignore all the other gadgets you won't probably use.

I wonder what's worse at the moment.

Rennlist's "Everything sucks but Porsche" philosophy

or

BP's current "We like our cars to look super weird but don't make fun of it" philosophy, also "It's a lifestyle now so get used to it Boomers."

BP is definitely worse. Banning or Temporarily banning (in my case) your long time members is a step to far.

Has BMW badge, will sell unfortunately.

The question is how many.

Part of me thinks that a large enough dip in sells coupled with continued bad press (about the looks) would result in a refresh.

Sadly, the other part of me thinks that BMW will just blame COVID or something else if sells slide, especially considering their current silly comments/stance.

I'm torn on my sales prediction. Part of me thinks they'll sell very well because AWD and monster in a straight line/plus cheaper than an M5. Especially if the tuners can crack the new ECUs for really monster power. Plus, BMW will subsidize the leases to move them.

Other side of me thinks it won't sell well because polarizing looks/flat out ugly to say the least. And the AWD "super sedan" market is pretty crowded with a few options. I would think people would go to Audi and MB's or even Tesla for those.

It'll be interesting to watch and see what happen. Either way, I think the F80/82/83 will be the high water mark for sales when it comes to the M3/4 and it is downhill from there. How much remains to be seen.

A BMW company insider already told me it will be even more locked down than vs before. They don't want to pay on any warranty claims if you try to tune it. Just the fact they went back to rear slider brake tells you they're all about cutting costs.

Yah, I've read similar things, but I'm guessing they'll still get into it eventually.

That and the lack of lighter elements like the carbon fiber strut brace in the engine. Explains the jump in weight.

I suspect that all the folks salivating after seeing the power the X3Ms can get through a tune will be worried once BMW implements OTA checks on the ECU and flags the ECU if its tuned. It would be a great way to send a message to all of the people who tune and expect BMW to foot the bill.

I don’t blame BMW for doing this at all or any other manufacturer for that matter.

I also don’t blame people for tuning their cars, but don’t expect it to be covered under warranty. Be ready to pay and don’t try and scam a free repair making things harder for the rest of us with a legitimate warranty issue.

End mini rant.

Strong agreement here. If you tune, you should be own up. I may consider a tune at some point ( a light one), but I'm putting in a full crank hub fix for long term reliability. I track occasionally (haven't done it on this car yet) but the stock platform is plenty powerful.

That said, seeing that video of that guy slamming his car on the curb coming out of CnC, is a strong reminder that these cars are plenty squirrelly.

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1781260

Interestingly: its a non Comp F80 with blackout badges. Wonder if a competition package would have done the same.

Well, like a few others here, I am putting money where my mouth is and is going away from the brand entirely. Yeah I still have friends who probably still stay with BMW but I hope they aren't getting anything new.

I have not seen any of the new G 4 series on the road yet. I am curious how long this will take. Considering how big of a market LA/OC is, it shouldn't take that long.

With regards to the tuning thing. We all know it will happen sooner or later. You have to see this as a computer. You are essentially hacking the car. Hackers, will generally always win because they're far more of them. BMW is just playing catchup and making it more difficult. From what I know, one of the reasons for the warranty change from 4 years to 3 years, partially is this reason. They (BMW) are tired of people taking advantage of it.
