If the steering is subjectively equal or better to the E9X I will jump up and down with happiness. Nice to see that it's one of three differentiators mentioned, it gives me hope that we will get more than just a clinical and accurate steering, something with real feedback and natural, nice weight in all modes.

I think people forget that the 5.0L mustangs IS a fast car though. it came out in 2011 where the M3 came out in 2007-2008.

Even if the 5.0L mustang can keep up with a M3. the mustang fails hard in the luxury, style, and overall feel of the car. trust me i have driven many 5.0L mustangs. i would never want one. one of my very good friends owns one. after driving my M3, he said he will never buy a mustang again. so there IS more to this than you think.

stop just looking at what the cars do on paper. go drive them.

plus when they did the M3 VS 5.0L testing they did both cars with a 6 speed tranny. i bet a DCT is would be clearly faster than a 5.0L.

i have driven the mustang 5.0 and own the 335 m sport 2013 and i dunno why is everyone saying how luxury bmw is, i am sure m5 is and the 7 series but my 3 series squeaks everywhere and on top of that its been in the shop at least once a month since i got it, reason i mention mustang is because performance numbers are very similar and also i don't think that the current m3 is 30k plus better than the mustang gt

Well said.

Too many bench racers out there. I've spent a good deal of time--on and off track--in my E92 M3 and my buddy's 2013 Mustang GT.

Conclusion: I personally think the current Mustang GT is an INCREDIBLE performance bargain, but the E9X M3 as a performance car is head and shoulders above it. The Mustang GT can be wrangled and forced into fast laps that match the E9X M3, but the E9X M3 does it with a precision and confidence to its handling that isn't even in the same league.

Still though, if this current generation Mustang GT can be purchased for 15 grand or less in the next 5 years, I'd be interested in picking one up. That's a LOT of performance for not a lot of money.

Very boring looking...
M3 looks the part, but this M4 reminds me of the Hyundai Genesis coupe from the back.

you are having a bad experience with your 3 series. my m3 has been great, no problems. i love the interior, the car has much more leather over a mustang.

i am not saying the M3 is some crazy luxury car. but its still better than a mustang.

again yes the mustang can perform similar ON PAPER. but go drive them both! you will see what we are talking about.

ya they are going to offer much more performance for the money. I know this is going to sound snobby. but i just cant stand how many mustangs are on the road. and they are way to affordable of a car for my taste. ya the GT500 is a different story. way to many base mustangs overpopulate the roads. driven by people who don't give a dam about cars. at least 3 series having a 35k base price.

BMW M, AMG, Audi RS, Porsche, CTS V etc offer much more class, luxury, and overall quality feel to the cars. while still getting great performance. personally i am more into that.

although if you track a lot i can see why the mustang would be more appealing.

This is what the base 4 series should be like. The M should have some more muscular traits to it. At the price point, this does not even have LED lights! The M3 still looks better to me, though I'm not in the market for either of these cars. Too expensive.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say I still like the F82 more than the F80, and that bias maybe carries over from having the E92 M.

Whereas people say the sedan M3s look better because they're more aggressive, to me it always looks like with the sedan looks that way because they're trying to cram things into a space where it doesn't naturally fit.

We're not talking about the 4S vs. the 2S or a RUF 911. I for one love how the coupe is more understated than the sedan and was in the E36, E9x and now the F8x. The M4 looks like it fell into its body organically whereas the M3 looks like it's trying to burst out of it. Also, the CSL style spoiler on the M4 has to count for something.

I will say that if this is Mineral Gray, I'll have to re-consider Individual. MG is the color on my M4 pre-order, but the more I see it, the less I'm convinced. It's a shame there isn't a proper proper standard blue (LeMans or Interlagos) or a proper gray (Space Gray) on the standard palette. As many have lamented, the color options are terrible this time around. Even Black Sapphire looks worse than Jerez Black. Thankfully we have the hideous successors to Pheonix Yellow and LSB.

Luxury and sports car is a oxymoron that is becoming way too common and equates to grand tourer. The Boss 302 is a true sports car with 444 hp NA V8 and 7500 redline that can be had for 45k. Must be a relief to know you can get a 4 banger 3 series for not much less.

although people who are looking into buy a BOSS are not looking into buying a BMW 335i or 328i.

i think BOSS is a great car. although i prefer the looks, comfort/luxury, and SOME sports car feel of a BMW M car over a BOSS. maybe if all that was important was getting better track times, i would grab a boss. To me spending 75-80k on a European car puts you in a different "class" car. which SOME people like.

They can spend all the time they want, the difficulty is the car is turbo charged. Why do you think the F10 M5 is sound enhanced? Maybe because it is sound impaired. The e9x M3 sounds infinitely better than a GT-R and a lot better than 991 TT, unless you prefer the sound of a high powered vacuum cleaner.

I know that's the difficulty which is why I compared it to good sounding turbocharged cars.

GT-R with an exhaust sounds very good to me actually.

Yes the turbo mutes the sound but the rest is up to the motor, compression, firing order, etc. Thats why F1 cars sound the way they do. That's also why an S85 sounds completely different from the Viper SRT10 V10.

They just need to spend some time in that department in my opinion. Some people are liking the new m3/4/5 sounds but to me, they don't get anywhere near the previous gen sounds. That's just an option though which I agree with you for.

My first impression was mini-m6. These are not very good shots at all. The m4 looks so brutish and un-refined, perhaps because the dirtiness contributed to it but car appears very ordinary in the candid shots. On my way home I saw a '14 coxster which exude esscenes of class and examplifies definition of precision machinery and a jewel of a car. If I want to dump mid 70s to 80k for a car I want something bit more special. (I'd say the same for GTR but that is not to say anything on its performance)
