F82 M4 CF driveshaft removal

2018 M4 DCT - 73K miles

I will be installing new Deka stage 2 DCT clutches over Labor Day weekend as I have been dealing with countless trans temp, clutch temp warnings, and slipping over the past several months.

While the clutch is out, I will also be replacing the RPM trans temp sensor, mechatronics gasket & hardware, elect o-ring, and of course all fluids and filters. I have a replacement guibo & exhaust hardware as well.

All required parts, replacement hardware, tools in hand to do this properly (I hope).

My question is regarding removal of the 1-piece CF driveshaft. While I purchased the replacement diff nut and loctite, and have the crowsfoot tool, I currently have no noises or issues and if possible, would prefer to only disconnect at the guibo. Is this possible? My plan is to remove the guibo-to-trans bolts after removal of the rear trans mount, and hopefully be able to separate the drive shaft from trans and hang with zip ties or something.

Because this is a 1-piece driveshaft, I just don't know how much "play" or movement exists.

Hoping someone who has removed a 1-piece driveshaft could advise. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

While there is plenty of information and video of metal/2-piece driveshaft removal, after weeks of searching I have been unable to find much on the 1-piece CF.

That's what I did on my car. 6MT but I doubt the DCT would make it impossible to do.

Ive only worked on a 6 speed but the measurements should be the same. I dont see why you would have any trouble.

You should be able to position the shaft downwards or to the side when you need to pull the DCT from the engine. You just need to avoid the DCT output shaft. The driveshaft also compresses a little bit if i recall correctly.

Dont let the shaft hang unsupported.

Thank you both for the replies. I'll proceed as planned, and if it doesn't work for any reason I always have the option of complete removal.

Just a follow up. Confirmed, dct trans removal and reinstall done without CF driveshaft disconnect from differential.

I recommend protecting the driveshaft with thick foam, rubber, etc.

Clutch replacement went as planned other than a trans jack failure which could have been MUCH worse (I was lucky). Avoid Jegs low profile 2,000lb trans lift at all cost.

How were you able to get the guibo side of the driveshaft to collapse enough to have enough room to get it down and away from the transmission? Ive done this twice now and both times I had to remove the 50mm nut from the diff and the drive shaft actually didn't collapse short enough to get off those threads I had to pry a bit so it seems like the collapsible end by the guibo is stuck or something. It moves but only about an inch or so.

I just pulled the driveshaft off with the guibo on. I did disconnect at the diff though.
