Gintani Crankhub VS 4 pin Crankhubs
Hello folks. I know there are lots of debates on what crankhub is good and whether to even do the crankhub or not depending on how much power you're making. I have read through almost all of these thread (at least that's what it feels like at this point) but I don't see a whole lot mentioned about the Gintani one piece crankhub.
I need to replace the oil pan on my f82 and since I wanted to do the crankhub in the future, I'm getting a killer deal getting both done at the same time. One concern I have is that almost all the highly reputable shops in the DMV area seem to prefer the Gintani one piece hub over the 4 pin hubs while most folks in the forum prefer the various 4 pin hubs. Are some of the more knowledgeable folks able to shed some light on this? The shops mention that they prefer the one piece hub because they have concerns about the 4 pin hubs having similar failure points. This doesn't make sense to me because if the concern is the pins failing, well the gintani also requires you to drill and in this case its just 1 hole (although its not really a hole). Maybe the issue is with the complexity with drilling 4 holes vs 1 and thus less is better in this case. Plus I think almost every 4 pin hub the timing chain sprocket is a one piece design, the second piece is the oil pump sprocket which doesnt get the same amount of forces anyways and is usually keyed. So whether its a one piece design or two piece design, the main area of concern of things going out of time is still addressed. Thanks for any insight that you guys can provide. My knowledge of cars is very limited, so please don't hesitate to correct me. |

Spline lock makes the most sense to me. It distributes the load across the crank evenly. Pins aren’t normally used in high torque applications and it doesn’t seem like the optimal engineering choice imo.

The look of the single gintani pin doesn't instill a lot of confidence however I would go with whatever your shop is comfortable doing. I drilled my 4 pin with the front clip off so pretty easy to do. If you drill crooked you are going to snap dowels.

Dang. Don't say that 😭😭. I guess the precision dynamics one looks a little better but every reputable shop near me prefers the gintani.
