Headlight condensation

My left headlight seal appears to have failed and there is condensation inside the unit.

Any secret fixes other than to shell out the £1,700 I was quoted to replace the unit?

Cheers

Steve

How old is your car?
A headlamp unit should be expected to last. It’s not a consumable or a part subject to wear & tear.
Consumer rights are on your side, so I would be visiting your dealer with a view to replacing either for nothing or at least very heavily discounted.
The key thing with parts like this are that they should be of good quality, fit for purpose & expected to last a reasonable period of time.
I would suggest it’s reasonable to expect a headlamp unit to last as above, probably for most of the cars life.

The headlights aren't a fully sealed unit, otherwise you would have insane amounts of condensation with no escape.

You most likely have dirty/blocked vents or a crack.

If you can post some photos of your headlights and any condensation I might be able to advise. Also the conditions that cause it (after washing, cold or warm weather?).

I recently split and modified a set of icons so I have a pretty solid idea on how most of them are designed. I also installed some vent patches for increased exit flow, these aren't a solid solution though.. they just help aid exporting and equalising moisture/pressure.

Both mine had condensation a few years back. Since then i've used silica gel beads inside the enclosure which has sorted it. Just take them out occasionally to dry out. Xenons on mine and have a lid on top of the enclosure, i don't know if LED's also have the lid.
