Requested TBA and TAN. What are these by the way?
TBN is your leftover additives in oil. Total Base Number.
TAN is total acidic number. It you basically oxidation.

TAN should not exceed TBN. Sometimes it is OK, but only if oils with a lot of ester is used like Redline.
Without that you really don't know state of your oil.
So in my case those numbers are looking good?

Sorry, my mistake.
I didn't see those rubrics as I was looking on phone.
Yes. This is pretty good TBN, but TAN, although below TBN could be better for LL01 oil.
Try Motul. I have seen some reports and TAN usually has excellent value.

@edycol thanks for the tip on Motomaster oils, the Formula 1 option is LL01 but at present, the Quaker State option is cheapest between QS, Motomaster, and Pennzoil. Nice to have options!

Guys, my mechanic says he recommends 5w50 Mobil1 / Millers oil to put in the engine as most of his clients also use the same for S55.

what is general assumption for 5W50?

I do change oil each year or 6-7K km intervals if it matters.

Any oil that is LL-01 or LL-01FE approved works- Mobil 1 5w50 is neither.

5w50 is too thick, that was what some prev gen M engines called for. Mechanic might be just assuming all M engines got the same. 0w40 is where you want to be for the S55.

well, here they also recommend 5W50:

https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/th...-track.304136/

my summer temps are 85-95"F and the car will be seeing redlines often driven mostly spring - autum. I also have some doubts but...I never had a reason not trusting him.

Next month I'm finally putting BM3 Stage 1 and I'm confused now

I got 3 jugs on the way. ETA Sunday. Plus 2 jugs of 0w20 and 5w30 ETA saturday. I didnt see any delayed options, other than normal "prime day" which would have been end of the week.

edit: And still showing in stock, and if I order now, would still get it Sunday. Maybe an issue of regional availability, not crossing regions for distribution within the amazon network?

Yes and it is probably not in stock in my local dist center.

BTW got my Mobile 1 0W-40 Blackstone back. Castrol 0W-40 in it now. Will run for same interval and run Blackstone again.

Everyone:
New version of Castrol 0W40 is out. IMO, does not look as good as before.
Bug increase in pour point=less PAO.
As of now PDS has it that it lost Porsche A40 approval (big thing if oil is used on track) and somehow gained LL01.
Jury is out.

Oh good, another silly thing to worry about. Thanks for the update. Staying tuned.

And thanks in general for all the great info you have graced us with.

edy - What is difference in pour point for new Castrol 0w40? On the website I have at -45 although it looks like it still is claiming LL01 approval despite it being an April 2022 update:

new data sheet:
https://msdspds.castrol.com/bpglis/F...epp-cdtt2a.pdf

edit: older data sheet
https://petroleumservicecompany.com/..._0w-40_PDS.pdf

Found this, seems was -57 prev. Think this makes a huge difference? Seems it brings to same pour point as Xcess gen2 although that is a 5w40...hmm, just about to change oil, thoughts?

Xcess gen2:

Xcess gen2:
https://azupim01.motul.com/media/motulData/DO/base/8100_X-CESS_GEN2_5W-40_en_FR_motul_17603_20220427.pdf
So, that kind of pour point difference indicates lower % of PAO and more Group III base stocks. Pour point is really high for 0W40 oil.
If it has now LL01, I would say PAO went from 50% to 25%. Group III base stocks are not oxidizing as much.
For me biggest issue is apparent loss of Porsche A40 approval. I still think it is mistake on PDS as that would be absolutely ridiculous. That means that HTHS is absolutely mediocre and shear stability not good as A40 involves 8X1hrs of simulated engine operation on Nordschleife.

I think actual jugs will have all approvals listed. If I was getting oil change now I would go Motul, Pennzoil.
