Which means....a normal person can't get one.

BMW is going to price themselves out of a lot of people's leagues with that kind of entry point...and end up making the M2 that much more desirable at the same time

Most likely with a few must have options. Probably walking out of the dealership over $80k including tax.

I think you are right--I was originally hoping for a stripper M2 in the 50 range, but it seems like that won't happen now...

Although the 1M started at 47K here in the US, so it might be low 50s for the M2 if we are lucky

Base price? Certainly his question was about base price since even a 335i can exceed 60k once optioned.

But once options are added, yes it will go over 70k and even 80k, especially with CCB.

I'm thinking base price of high 60k's

Absolutely, especially with all these options that we will have available.

I think the new M3 sedan will be in par with the pricing of the C63. The new M4 will be about $2.5K - $3.5k more than the sedan.

I think a loaded non CCB and CRT seat car will run just under 80 and with those extreme options around 90. So just do some good negotiation and Euro delivery and maybe you can save enough to cover the cost of the cool stuff

I don't think M3/M4s are meant to be within reach of 'normal' people. I haven't looked at the average income in the US but I suspect $70k is more than the average person makes in a year.

A couple points stand out. The 435i is gonna be $60k, WOW! That car had better be the equal if not better than this current E9x M3 to demand the same money. Secondly, there is no doubt in my mind now the new M3/4 will be EPIC! However $80k base puts it in a strange space. It HAS to be $20k better than the current gen and nearly as good as a (991)911 for $20k less. ALL AT THE SAME TIME. BMW has managed to pull this trick off with every gen M3 but the market is changing and this E9x M3 is so good I just don't know if they can do it again. But if anybody can, it's BMW...

You seem very knowledgeable and have always posted a lot of good stuff, but do you think the M4 will really be a base price of 80k? I was thinking that a loaded M4 without CCB's would be about 85 to 87k. If the base price is 80k and you put about 12k worth of options (not including CCB) then the M4 will be at the base price of an M5 and once CCB are added it would be well into M5 territory. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

If I had to guess a base price for the M4 I would go with 75k. This would be about a 15k increase over the old coupe, still be below the base price of a 911 (84k) and right in the thick of the pricing against the C63 coupe and RS5 (its primary competitors).

I don't think the price increases will be too significant.

The E60 M5 started around $87K, F10 starts around $90K. E63 M6 started around $106K, and the F12 starts at $109K. Basically a $3-4K increase for base models.

I think the price increase between E9X, and F8X will definitely be less than $10k for sure. Maybe $5-7K is realistic??

Thanks for the reply and info. That makes perfectly good sense and I could definitely see this being the case.

Thank you to RMB for the kind words. I have no idea what this thing is gonna cost but remember it's supposed to have a lot of carbon fiber and "extensive use of lightweight materials." I believe that's the exact quote. I don't see ANY way it comes in priced significantly under $80k. Which coincidentally would place it in old 997 C2s pricing territory I believe. A car (the 997) BMW would LOVE for this new M3/4 to be better than in every way. It also HAS to be mentioned in the same breath of the (991) 911. I just don't know how you would do ALL this for $70k. But again if anybody can do it, it's BMW...
We shall soon see and am extremely intrigued.

Yes--it most certainly would be. I am pretty sure the average is closer to 50...

When I said "normal" I guess I didnt explain very well what I meant. I make a good living--more than 70k a year--and consider myself pretty normal. I can't afford a car at that price point, which seems wrong somehow for a 3-series based vehicle. That's all I meant.

Seems a bit much, I'd go with a <$5k increase. Starting over $70k makes the C63 seem like a steal. Doesn't it start around $60k? I seem to remember pricing them last year and a fully loaded one was in the $75k range.

2 -3K more max on both models increase compared to the E90, E92 M3. There will be more Options to choose from but the base will not increase a lot mark my words.
