Poll - Are E9X M3 owners biased against the new M4?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I've seen this claimed. Let's try to see what a poll says. Surely you can't get an absolute answer but I'll give it a try. You may have mixed feelings about the new car and obviously we don't know many key things like power to weight, thus this is preliminary. Your exact feelings may not be categorized here - try to just go with your gut.

I think my 2011 E90 M3 is sublime but I love what I see and hear about the F8X.
One caveat though, if it has a poor EPS ala the F10 it will instantly go from hero to zero in my eyes even if it circles the ring at 7:30 and pumps out a gazzilion HP and TQ.

I like my current M3 very much, but I can't wait to move out of it and into the M4. I love the new looks of the M4 and I really miss a torque filled engine with low rpm grunt. The M4 will suit me better but to each their own and many will miss the current engine and its high rev nature, which is also special.

I just picked up a new 2013 e92 M3 in May...no regrets. I think the M4 is bad ass and aggressive. Do I think my m3 looks outdated? Not at all; Softer lines? Yes, perhaps, but overall I think the LCI tails and mineral white paint keep it pretty fresh IMO. I'm really excited to hear about the new M3/M4 tech specs; I'm more excited for the M3 reveal I think because I've always loved the e90 M3's bull dog stance and judging by the spy photos, these rear fender flairs look pretty damn aggressive!

ps I came from a FBO 335i and STaSIS tuned B8.5 Audi S4 so the high-revving S65 was a breath of fresh air. Here's hoping BMW combines the two characteristics of these two types of engines into something fantastic

I love my current '08 E92 M3. I also loved my '02 E46 M3. Both awesome cars in their own right with different personalities.

But I am also looking forward to owning the F82 M4 and I like what I have seen thus far .

Lol. Why would I hate on the m4? So far, I like what I see and if it handles as well as it looks, then am in. Will I miss the v8? Sure, but life goes on.

Glad you said owners. I lease and I'm open about my next car. Definitely considering the M4 but I'm far from certain I'll get one.

If I owned the E92 I'd probably be weighing the pros and cons of getting an M4 more closely since I wouldn't have the time limitations that a lease imposes.

I have an E90 M3 and so far I am mehhh on the whole M3/M4 coming.

The Turbo engine is all or nothing and the weight loss claims are propaganda as far as I am concerned.

I've said in earlier posts this COULD be an amazing car but it has a high likelyhood of being a complete dud.

No way I'll put money down until 2-3 years so we can sort out the real truth or just BMW hot air.

Looking at the M division the M5/M6/M6GC are fat, overweight, overhyped and grossly overrated.

I dont see BMW M changing their stripes on this car....but if this is THE shit I'll admit I'm wrong.

I'll take a used GT3 in 3 years since that is a sports car. Not sure BMW M Division is making sports cars anymore.

I wouldn't blame anyone who owns an E9x to take a wait and see attitude on how the technology plays out and how reliable the car is. If you aren't pressed to get something soon it would be financially smart anyways to let the initial demand die down and then watch dealers offer discounts.

I'm due for a new car in under a year and the timing is poor on getting any discount at all on the M4.

I completely agree...e92 doesn't look old and beaten in comparison...thanks BMW for giving us the best of both worlds..

No M3 independent on model looks old and beaten. They are all icons in their own right. The E9X is an incredible car and always will be just as the other M3s. The F80 will join them not replace them as icons, IF it delivers and so far so good, the only thing we really know is the styling which is great IMO. I think only the E30 can match it in looks. We also know it's FI which is not optimal for sure but has it's own advantages.

Having a 335is, two M3s and a F10 M5 I'm split on what direction to take

I love the S65 the most but a 335is on steroids would be awesome as well

So if BMW can get the S55 to have instantaneous response and have plenty of tach to wind out, then it would be a winner

I do admit I like seeing a V8 or bigger in my engine bay... And I love the induction and mechanical symphony of the S65

So I'd have both but this time either the F80 or F86GC

I am looking more forward to the M2

I don't understand your logic at all. You claim the M5/M6 are overweight but yet you bought an "overweight" M3 that BMW has corrected with a lighter M4. Where is the propaganda about the weight loss claims? It's pretty clear by all reports.

What "hot air" are you're not believing and why do you think it could be a high likelihood of being a complete dud? What would BMW have to gain to try and fool you now? Wouldn't this hot air backfire once they reveal the car? And whether you like it or not, turbos are the wave of the future. You speak highly of Porsche but how do you feel about top of the heap king of the hill of all the 911's, the $180K Porsche Turbo S?

The GT3 is surely a better sports car than the M4, but it's also twice the price and in a different league. Sure you can buy a used GT3 but lets compare apples to apples.

The F80/82 are going to be lighter, faster and more torque with better fuel economy then the E90 M3. It's a better car in every way except maybe the engine sound and that's subjective and very arguable. Good job, BMW. It's about time.

I think I need a 5th option: "I own an M3 and feel ambivalent about the new M4." Some good, some bad for me.

Frankly, it leaves me cleaving to a 911 (they kept the name for one; NA another) or - and I can't believe I am typing this - maybe even a C7.

To my mind the E9X M3 was more special vis-a-vis the stock E9x than the next gen M3/M4 is to the F30/F8x.

Tacoma, there are no power figures, no weight data and zero feedback on how the turbo will last. Sounds like you already gave them the trophy for sports car of the year.

I think every enthusiast should be wary of the new M3/M4.

My E90 M3 is heavy I agree, but all the bs talk about new M5 an M6 being lighter was just that, bs. BMW did nothing to lighten the cars.

Mileage will be a huge improvement I agree. It's tiring on a $70/week habit for almost 5 years now.

Like I said I remain skeptical of the BMW propaganda and I won't be making a deposit anytime soon.

Will be interesting sitting on the sidelines.

I'd drive the GT3 over the turbo Porsche GT2. I don't get the GT2. Car is a bit of a clown in the Porsche lineup. Where does it fit in? It's a maniac car.

Unfortunately my poll does not seem to reflect the number and ratio of negative posts to positive ones, especially in the big busy reveal thread. I think the negatives are much lower here than there. It would be a lot more accurate to simply tally the positives vs. negatives but that's a lot of tedious work. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Well, I did own an E46 M3, E92 M3, and now an E82 1M

What most disturbs me;

It`s ever increasing size. While world wide downsizing is common, this car has missed that opportunity IMHO.

The engine is downsized all right, but that is half the job.

Big cars lack sportiness, big cars are more like really GT cars, nothing wrong with that, but an M3/4 could do better IMHO.

Maybe the upcoming M2 will do the job, we`ll see in time.

No 911 for me, make that cayman S, maybe GT/R version, or an M2
