How much gas on Ed dropoff?

Did you guys leave your car full of gas at dropoff? I was told Tilsit doesn't matter, but thought it would be nice to have 100 octane when I get it back to the states 😁... Is it best to fill, or...?

It doesn't really matter. B/c the dealer gives you a fill up anyway when you do a re- delivery in the states. Also after you drop it off the car to when the car reaches your dealer it does add around 50 miles to car.

I had read the shipping companies prefer under a 1/4 tank. Can't remember where I saw that.

Leave no more than 1/4 of a tank. Excess is removed for shipping due to safety regulations.

To heck with gas ... what about souvenirs? It would seem like packing the trunk with random artifacts from your journey would save you from hauling it in your luggage.

I'm guessing there's some kind of rule against this or lack of liability for theft, but it sounds good in theory.

Don't think about leaving couple of cases of beer in the trunk, they won't make it home.
Unless you want to make the customs guys happy...

Nah, the car needs to be completely in its' birthday suit, so to speak, when dropped off.

You leave any souvenirs in that trunk and they aren't even making it out of The Fatherland

Customs.

I don't think I would want to drive on the gas in the tank after 2 1/2 months of transportation. I'm planning on leaving it with like ~50 miles left and having dealer throw a full tank of 95 in it when it arrives.

Less thank 1/4 tank is what they want, leave it full and you're risking it being delayed. As for souvenirs, none, they'll be in the trash along with your first aid kit and warning triangle if left attached.
Mine was so low on gas my SA ran out of gas when taking it to get PDI'd lol

This was so funny... I ended up doing 3 visits to the gas station in my last 24 hours thinking that I'd drop off with minimal gas in the tank but just couldn't stop driving the car!!

No way. 50 miles driven after ED drop-off to US Re-Delivery? I've seen some people citing their cars as having 7 or 8 additional miles, and I have also seen one person who showed about 20 miles IIRC, but NEVER have seen someone say 50 miles were added to their ODO between drop off and pick-up.

Did your personal car have an additional 50 miles put on it after ED drop-off? If so, what was your drop-off point? There should be absolutely nothing that needs the car to be driven that much between loginout, the truck, the port, the boat, the drive to VDC, then the drive to truck for shipping to your dealer.

By your statement, the average of these small drives would need to be 10 miles. Being that you're from East Meadow, I'm guessing your car went through the NJ VDC, where pier to facility is exactly 1 mile. Also, per the operating manager of that VDC the cars should gain no more than 2 miles on the ODO between shipment out of Germany and on truck to dealership. Taking that into account, the average of the other legs would need your car to have been driven about 14 miles between (A) loginout and the truck, (B) the truck to the port, and (C) the port onto the ship. This just isn't realistic.

If your car had 50+ miles added to it, you should inquire as to why/how it needed to be driven so much.

Yeah i was wondering the same thing, i didn't expect it to be that many miles. i had an increase of 40-50 miles from when i dropped it off in Munich to when i got it at my dealer. i thought it might have been normal but i will inquire about it.

That seems like too many, at least to me. Your thought wasn't unreasonable. Thinking about it - they produce cars at Welt, and those cars follow the same path, more or less, than the cars dropped off at loginout. Are new BMW's typically delivered with 50 miles? I don't know as I haven't yet owned one...but I'd be skeptical of a 50 mile addition.

Any other ED'ers have insight?

Sounds like your dealer took it for a spin. Look for YouTube videos of your car being thrashed like that 1M haha
