My understanding of the Porsche report (circa 997) is it has ranges, and ranges 1-3 overrev can happen from using the soft rev limiter for upshifts, range 5 is start of warranty void range and range 6 is valve float/definitely money shift.

In response to the others, I would try to get a car will lesser range 1-3 over rev but to some extent that's what you have to accept when getting a used sports car

Sorry OP, I think you had some hoonage going on and an aggressive downshift might have gotten you into trouble. Get the dme report then if needed lawyer up
I have not seen the report itself, but my tuner could tell me how many times the engine hit redline and by how much it exceeded it. He also said the date and time of each exceedance was also logged (he told me the date of the max exceedance). He congratulated me to the fact that I was definitely using my M3 as it was intended .

Lesson of the day.

Computer knows all. In a few centuries, AIs will be around and we are all doomed.

On a serious note, OP your probably screwed. Sorry bud. Don't money shift next time.

I don't know how long data is stored in the DME, but this could have happened prior to you owning it. Hopefully you can correlate the over-rev to the mileage and be vindicated. Unless you really did money shift. In that case, call your insurance and have them cover it.

Hes doing a good job at trolling lol
But at one money shift every 5000 miles that will be epically expensive.

Guys this smells like bullshit to me. This is a brand new poster with a brand new account here on the forum. There is no way a dealership or BMWNA would behave as he is suggesting. Further, there is a rev limiter, so unless he was going 80 mph and downshifted into 2nd gear....

If you simply rev without shifting you are going to bounce off the rev limiter.

I say this story is a fake.

Is it stored and correlated to mileage? In short, the scenario where dealer kid money shifts between miles 2 and 3, buyer comes in and buys it with 4 miles on the OD thinking he's getting a new car. Thus new buyer could prove it wasn't him.
