A strange whistling noise when cold start on S55 engine
Hello, everyone! My Car has 2000 miles now, since I got it from the dealer, I noticed a strange noise from the engine bay after cold start. It sounds like something whistling, and comes from the right side of engine (not from the turbo side). The noise will be there for a while, whether it's idling or driving at low speed, and it's clear on 900-1000 rpm. A few minutes later or it's warm up, the noise will disappear.
Last week, I drove it back to the dealer, was been told it's normal. They started a new M4 for comparison, then heard a similar noise. But I still want to find out the cause of the noise, dose anyone know what this is? Should I be concerned? |

I know I'm not much help but my CS makes so much mechanical noise, I pretty much ignore all of it. Used to have a very slight whistle as well. I'm 8k miles in with 12+ track days and no issues. Most of the cringing noise comes from the M-DCT. It's painful to listen to.

for me its only authentic.
all of these mechanic sounds are a sign to that works. its the intake, injektionvalves and there timing system. in the other new cars all sounds are so artificial, boring and perfect. the DCT is really a supercar gearbox. all sounds in it are pure motorsport like. its clunky, raw and pretty fine in the same one. the only ones is really better come from Porsche or Ferrari <- and Ferrari is a bigger Diva xD M Cars are even Divas but when you respect it and good take care of it they running fantastic. Here in Germany we Enthusiasts change the Engineoil all roundabound 9000 miles. Our Engines ratles too and that regardless of the fact we has an perfect quality 102octan gasoline. Enough GOOD oil in the warm engine? ok. thumps up. lets go. |

It sounds like a sharp wind. When the engine hood opened, the sound is emitted from the position marked in the figure.
