I may need some help here: ED Nav. Related ?
I'm made it to Zurich, and all of a sudden the Nav is asking for an activation code. The BMW product specialist that did my deliver, Alex Fuhrmann, told me not to remove the USB stick from the center console, and I haven't, and it worked fine all the way from Germany here. Any ideas? I looked through all my paperwork and didnt see anything.
I also emailed my CA, and I thought of calling Assist when I got back to the car. |

Happened to me once too during my ED last month. I used my phone's Google nav in the mean time, then after a few key cycles, it started working on its own again. I tried key cycling on the spot a few times, that didn't work. You almost have to drive it a little and shut off the car, close the door, leave it alone, go grab lunch or something, then come back and it'll hopefully work again. It sucks, I know, especially when you're in an unfamiliar place. I never pulled out the USB drive.

Same thing happened to me. Removed the USB and plugged it back in. Once I selected it again in the multimedia part of idrive, I turned the car off, locked it, and walked about 50 feet away, came back a couple of minutes later, turned the car on, everything loaded up again. When it asks for the activation code, don't click "ok", just leave it alone and it should load again

Same thing happened to me last month, except that resetting didn't do anything. The USB stick actually stopped working, hopefully yours will be fine with just resetting it.

BMW was not helpful. Roadside assistance just gives you the sequence to try: take out the USB, lock the car, take key and go 100 ft from the car, wait at least 10 min, go back, start the car, start the Nav, insert USB and it should reset. This didn't work so I was referred to BMW Welt, who told me the same thing except to put the USB back in before I started the car. None of these worked. Not a huge deal with cell phone nav systems these days, but BMW needs to better understand and prevent this issue. Could be a real pain if you don't have cell phone service.

Yeah, they routed my call around as well. So BMW overnighted another USB stick? That is nice. I didn't bother as I was almost finished with my trip.

Yeah stick broke on Day 2 with the car so it was still early on for us. IT took two days to convince them to do that though. We used our phone during that time which wasn't too bad.

On our recent Euro Delivery we removed the Nav USB stick several times because we wanted to plug in my iPod Touch to use the M Lap Timer when we had track days. We always made sure that before we removed the Nav stick that we shut the car down, and then plugged in the iPod and restarted the car. To plug in the Nav stick we reversed the process. We never had a problem. I'm pretty sure that we didn't get the message about entering a code each time we reinserted the Nav stick, but when we did it just went away, or we OKed it, I don't remember.
On this trip there were a total of 14 M (10 M2s, 2 M3s, 2 M4s) cars in our group delivery and probably half of them removed and replaced the Nav stick several times. There was one person whose Nav stick didn't work at all in her M2, right from the Welt. Because it was a group delivery it was determined that she really didn't need it so she didn't try to have that resolved.

The reboot procedure has been posted in several threads:
1) Remove the stick 2) Turn off your car 3) Lock your car and walk away for 5 minutes, allow the car to go to sleep. 4) Return, and start your car. 5) Start the Nav system 6) Put in stick 7) Allow system to reboot Good luck |

An our after leaving Welt, ours quit working. A couple of times it asked for the code, but shortly after started booting, but would get stuck there. We noticed it did this inside the hotel's parking garage, which was in the basement of the hotel. You could sit there for thirty minutes and it wouldn't come up, but once we got on the street for 5 minutes it would bootup. So we came to the conclusion that if it wasn't getting a GPS signal it, would stay stuck on the green screen with the buildings showing.

I experienced this exactly a week ago outside the Dorint hotel in Nurburgring - 4 days after delivery. I called the Welt, but being Sunday, the premium lounge was closed and the person was not very helpful. She put me through to BMW customer service, but the gent did not speak English, and my German was worse than his English. Ended up using the Waze app on my iPhone for the remaining 3 days, until drop-off in Bremerhaven.
