Looking back and forth between this and the standard 4 series, I still can't tell if the fenders are flared on the M. I hope they are but I wish BMW made them more prominent and obvious.

I can now see how much more the front/hood on the M4 lengthened compared to my E92 M3.
Thus rules out any V6 speculation.
Longer front/hood = inline 6.

That doesn't rule out anything. The V6 would be pushed as far back as possible for better balance. With that being said I think we're getting a twin turbo I6.

Wow! This car has really generated a lot of interest. I think it's laughable and unfair to assume that if you currently own an e9x m3, you hate the m4, that couldn't be further from the truth. I am really excited about it and hope it lives up to the hype. The only thing that would dissuade me from getting one is if the test drive fails to impress.

What's there to hate? It's not even an M3.

The exterior doesn't really matter to me, but apparently matters to a lot of people, as M cars are about performance and emotion. I just hope the engine is one that follows the M history of storied, legendary engines. If we're still raving about the engine a dozen or fifteen years from now, it will have made the cut.

The M3 just looks outdated because it has been around since 2007. But side by side I think the M3's exterior looks sleeker and the M4 is looking more like the 6 series specially from the rear. My point is the exterior is not significantly much better the than the previous style not as big of a jump say from E46 to E92. The two comparo might not be to scale. If I size it according to the wheels as if they are both 19", the M4 comes out shorter in length.

Because of the limo tints. And it wouldn't show the final interior anyway.

There'll be no interior shots nor engine shots (or specs) that will be posted from this concept.

No technical details until next month. The concept is here just to showcase the upcoming M4 styling.

No interior , no engine and no technical specifications at this time.

For now this is all what you will see.

I don't really get it. This looks almost identical to the M sport 4 series which gets mostly negative critic and this (concept!) gets all the praise in the world?

The production car will look almost identical to the M sports 4 series apart from very small details so how exactly can this model get so much appreciation as the M sport 4 series doesn't?

Personally I'm a little bit disappointed in the 4 series after seeing the concept version (which IMO beats both the 4 series production and M4 concept) but still thinks that the 4 series in all is a pretty good option to anyone who doesn't want to buy an A5 or a C/E-class

+1. The exterior matters the least to any enthusiast. It should all be about the driving experience and the cost to obtain that experience.

Wow does the e92 look 5 years old next to the M4!!! I have had an e46 and e92 and now own a 911c4s (I also own a 2006 S2000 which is a must drive) . If the performance numbers work I think I'm back to the M4. I love my 911 but they have pushed the price so high I can't justify it. The bulges in the car (especially the rear) are everything the e92 was missing in my eyes. I think they really listened to owners complaints regarding the styling.

Anyone know if the M4 is still at Laguna or will it be moved back to Pebble today? I'm trying to catch a glimpse.

I'd be content with the Engine Bay in M4 as simple as this...

+1

It amazes me how many people on this forum who come up whenever there is a new car reveal and start a side conversation about how jealous and hateful the previous model owners are, would be, could be etc...

Agree, that straight cut hood edge completely ruins all the sloping sexy sleek curves of the car. What moron ruined the design like that?! Once I saw that hideous hood I hauled ass to order the E92 M3.

The rest of the car is nice, glad to see some real brakes on there.

Everyone should just love each generation for what they represent - a pure driving experience. Although all generations under the m3 moniker, there is no point in comparing a v8 to a inline 6 or to a FI 6.

I believe it has something to do with European safety regulations surrounding car/pedestrian accidents.

+1. Still looks hideous though. But why no changes on the Audi and the Merc?

I heard that was the reason for the forward grill. I'm ok with the protruding grill, it's the straight line hood cut off from the grill instead of continuing to the kidney grills. How would that have anything to do with safety? I havent seen any other car have that hood.

Still, its missing the M3 feel, you could easily differentiate a E92 M3 from regular E92. The power doom of the E92 with the top side vents looks more aggressive than here. This car looks like a F32 335 M sport w some mods.

+1. The M4 has been much anticipated and understandably will generate a lot of excitement and criticism, even in concept. But I agree that the contrasting mostly negative initial reaction to the F32 M Sport and mainly positive vibe to this M4 Concept is quite interesting especially on the aesthetics/styling which are not very far apart between the 4 Series M Sport and the M4 concept.

Disclosure: I have a F32 420d M sport on order to be my new daily driver and for me it was a clear winner when compared to the Audi/Merc alternatives at the time of order.
