Update to current factory software?

My car is a 2015 MY build and I was told that I could benefit from having my car updated to the latest BMW factory software. Has anyone actually done this? Is it something worth looking into?

Yes , tell them ur gauge clusters stop working intermittently and they will do it for free. Lots of minor changes in the update including suspension and Traction control. Search and you will find several threads on this.

my dealer told me this as well. They sold it as this is "recall" software update that you need to get. I guess I will see what coding gets erased in the process of doing the update. Just hope the adaptive headlights stay intact. I can fumble through the rest of the re-coding in time :-)

Hmm ok. Well I have the passive suspension and have already coded euro MDM so if those are the major changes I am not sure if its worth it for me.

Assuming you're talking about the JB4, unplug it and tuck the OBDII wire underneath the dash using a 10mm socket. No need to switch maps or whatever.

I got my software upgraded because my cluster was indeed shutting off/on and it did not effect any of my custom coding.

There's major changes to the suspension settings. Worth doing.

I have a MY2015 and the changes were literally night and day. I had car recoded after, nbd.

On my 2016 the m4 GTS coding for steering, diff and traction control were huge upgrades. Diff and TC def. The ZCP damper coding us great too. Car is at 56.1 or something.

That's a totally different story. We're talking about stock software.
I got my 2016 updated to 03/17 and can't feel any difference. Guess my car was already perfect before the update...lol

Sounds like this is something I can skip then, thanks guys. Suspension and traction updates are of no use in my situation.

I tried to get my software updated at the dealer for the suspension and didn't mind paying. They played dumb and acted as if they didn't understand at all what I wanted done. I heard you have to complain for them to do it.

It more sounds like you really don't want to go through the hassel of taking the car in. From my understanding going from the older softwares to newer are very worth it.

I too have a 6 mt and adaptive suspension with an older build date on old software. I can't wait until I get the chance to bring my car in to get updated.

Maybe it's just preference

No not at all. My car is going in for scheduled service shortly anyway and my buddy is a tech at the dealership so no hassle in getting it done. But the only improvements anyone has mentioned so far relate to active suspension (which I dont have) and traction issues (which I have euro MDM coded). So if that is all I am missing then it doesnt sound like its worth it to me is all I was saying.

Now if people were saying the power delivery, throttle response, exhaust note, etc changed it would be a different story...

Makes sense, I guess I just want to be up to date with everything on the car. Especially if I didn't have to worry about trying to get them to warranty it lol

So has anyone verified the advantages to the software update (I.e. EDC, dsc, etc)?
