Ceramic Coating Wheels
I initially posted this thread in the Cosmetic Maintenance section, but I don't think that section gets as must traction.
I recently applied Gyeon Rim to a brand new set of wheels. I applied Gyeon prep beforehand. I know I went really overboard with the coating because I essentially finished the bottle on the 4 wheels. I gave each wheel a few coats. I was using a microfiber towel to level the areas I coated, in quarter segments (though not with too much force). My question(s) (1) Should the wheel feel silky smooth to the touch after the coating has completely cured? I don’t see any “high spots” but certain areas of my wheels are def still tacky. (2) Assuming the appearance looks fine to me (no apparent high spots), would the tacky feeling have any effect on performance of the coating performance Thanks.

2. You definitely applied too much coating. It takes up to 24 hours for a coating to fully cure (depending on conditions). I would not worry about negative effects. |

I applied Gyeon prep first and then Gyeon Rim. It’s been about two weeks since the coatings, and the wheels are just sitting in my basement, so they’re 100% fully cured. I was just curious about the surface feel, but as long as the coating wouldn’t be hindered, then I’m good.

When the wheels get dirty. Spray some water on them if the dust literally flies off to the point you don't need to agitate them with soap. You did it right.

Just an FYI, tacky feeling could also indicate a high spot, since it hasn’t fully cured.
Worse case is reapplying another layer of coating per Gyeon’s recommended steps. You can layer most coatings if a high spot or inadequate coating was applied prior.
