This is a shot of my Sakhir Orange M4 Coupe on Thursday, 5/19, six days after my delivery on 5/13, northbound on the A81 about 40km from Sindelfingen, just 3km after the 2000 km break-in period. We had the 1200 mile service done at the BMW Niederlassung in Stuttgart the next day:

Unfortunately, there's sun glare on the instrument panel, but you can see that the needle is barely above the 170 mark. The digital speed reads 271 km/h which converts to 168.4. All I did was put the accelerator to the floor until the car didn't go any faster. There was no feeling of hitting a hard limiter, it just didn't go any faster. Notice that it's in D6, but it was still accelerating in auto mode, until it wasn't anymore. The DCT didn't upshift to D7. My wife duplicated this at the end of our trip, on Friday, 5/27, eastbound on the A8, from Spa, Belgium back to Munich, probably around Augsberg.

Both my wife and I had the impression that the M4 felt like it was completely planted and solid, not like her 2011 335is Coupe in which I did an indicated 160 mph during her Euro Delivery in 2011. In that car the rear end felt completely loose and floaty.

Completely legal on unrestricted sections of the Autobahn in Germany.

I'll guarantee that's yet more uneducated BS spewed from a salesman.

How can I say this?

Tried it on my stock E60 M5, flickered between an indicated 167/168mph with the skinny pedal pinned (likely around 155mph). Whether in 6th or 7th it wouldn't go faster despite the car being at ease re both power and stability (rated stock at 205mph drag limited, miss that engine very much but don't miss the SMGIII or the body roll).

Works only on older models. Think e39 m5 Not only BMW. Other manufacturers as well. Especially on MT car.

Last week before dropping off my M3, I made it to about 165 on the speedometer while on the autobahn. My dashcam GPS showed 160 when I viewed the video later. Anyway, it was quite fast!

Got it up to 145 on the Autobahn and wanted to take it to top speed. If it was a lease, I would have... Next time I'll do it regardless.

On North American roads, absolutely.

On the Autobahn, cannot disagree more. The unlimited section of roads there are made for such high speed driving.

The difference between the two isn't even close.

The 162(ish) was in my driveway, no risk to anyone.

I've had her touch 164-165... Have a pic somewhere.

Also, not in my driveway... On the Autobahn, and I was still getting walked on by a BAD ASS 1M.

North American roads are intended to keep those without high speed driving experience from driving at high speeds. If someone without said experience should drive at high speed there are built in ejection systems to sling them off the road to keep other drivers safe. Those with experience know to watch out for these systems: 'potholes', 'uneven road surface', and 'slow pokes in left lane'.

Its not that North American roads can't handle high speeds - its the authorities favor a policy of natural selection in speed enforcement. The roads are designed in light of this policy.

See? All quite simple.

Yeah good question: I thought the limiter was active at 155mph. The max I've hit is 146, and I was still in 4th gear (6MT). Definitely the car can do more, but I was with my father in law, so I tried to be careful. (He was checking his seat-belt all the time, priceless).

It is me, or the car feels more "planted" to the ground at high speeds? Downforce seems to be working pretty well after 120.
i felt a little light tbh

176??????

Questionable.

All either of mine ever hit was about 164. As well as all the others we've seen.

It pretty well known the limiter is roughly 162-164.

We you going down an 8 percent grade by chance?

I only went to just over 250KMH indicated in the HUD and let off; pulled hard and strong right up to me letting off. I was in Sport mode for the suspension and the car was extremely stable. I found 120 to 130 MPH to be the natural comfortable speed to run on the unlimited portions of the Autobahn.

I wanted to really bad, unfortunately I only hit the unrestricted spots on the Autobahn twice and both times had some traffic. Only got up to 110 max for about 3 minutes... The pull from 80 to 130 blew me away
