Have you considered the Nitto NT01? I really like that tire for HPDE and lapping events. |

You could also get the EC-7 18X10 with ET43 if you want to run more rubber in the back. A friend has R888 315/30 on CCW rear wheels made special for the M4 (ET44). He says no rubbing at all. He's using 285 in front with offset of ET29.

For the NT01, would you run a 275/40 square? They don't have a 285 based on what I can see. Where do you source them? A local shop or online?

I find the NT01 to be a very good compromise for non-competitive events. It is not the grippiest tire out there, but it is immune to heat cycling, has good cold grip (you can pretty much hammer it right on the first lap out), it does not get too greasy as it heats up, it gets grippier as it wears (I did my fastest laps with cord showing ) and has very decent wear (8~12 track days). I used to run 275/35R18 square on my E92. I am not sure yet if I will stick with that size or go with the larger sidewall 275/40R18 to better match OEM size. I am also considering going staggered, but concerned about losing the ability to rotate tires on the fly at the track. The NT01 are wide with square sholders, so the 275 will give you a nice wide contact patch (much more so than OEM 275 PSS). I usualy get them from my local speed shop, that is where I get the best price. You can get them at 1010Tires. Last time I checked, US distributors were not allowed to ship them to Canada, so unless you want to cross them across the border yourself, Discount Tires is not an option. I do the same as you, my PSS are also my wet track tire. As bad as they are in the dry, the PSS are really great in the wet . |

With ET25, no need to bother with spacers. If I ever go with a staggered setup, I would most likely use a wider 11" wheel in the back (if ever Apex come up with one ). So the 18x10ET25 wheels would still be good in the front. |

I'll call at some point to check as it is WAY cheaper than 1010Tires. Do you shave yours or run them as is? Discount Tire will heat cycle them which is convenient. I think I'm decided... EC-7 in 18x10 ET25 running 275/40-18 NT01. That will be my 2015 track set up.

I think I would try to find a 10.5" wide wheel if I were you........a ~285 tire to go with it. (square set up) I think Apex may have a few options to look at but you may need to run spacers to make it work......don't know but just a thought.

Do you think the 10.5" wheel would fit in the front? |

A 10.5 will not fit up front IMO. A 10 up front is probably pretty tight. 9.5 is perfect up front. 10.5 or 11 in the back is what I plan to run.

Yes but it is tight and with some modified suspensions it will not fit. Some vendor reported this in another thread.

Not to reverse your decision, but to make your aware: R888-R are coming, they will have 15" to 19" sizes, aymetrical (not directional as the R888s), but don't have further info.

I did a bit of digging and found a chart online of the sizes that the R888-R will be initially released in and none will work with the F8X... at least on release. 245/40-18 is the widest 40 series tires to be released. Nothing in 19's either (although I wouldn't likely go 19). You could go with a 275/35-18 I suppose (which they appear to offer) but that wouldn't be ideal I don't think. They will undoubtedly release more sizes but it makes me think that we may not see a usable size this year... or at least by the time I need to buy something. Oh well, I'll definitely keep my ears/eyes open on this one!

I have had experience with R888 in the GGG (triple G) compound, when I was in Dubai on both the STi and the E36 Euro M3, which was soft and had amazing grip compared to Nitto NT01. The GG (or the medium) compound found in the US is definately harder. Hope we get the right compound for 888R. Even Hankook TDs come in different flavors. FWIW, y'all (notice my Southern accent) may want to consider the Pilot Sport Cup 2s which has sizes for the M3 in 19s. I called up Radial Tire and was told to speak with Paul on monday. Will post with more details. Regards, Lutfy |
