As another tidbit, I personally dislike S3 with DSC/MDM activated. The powershifts are too aggressive for the tolerance of the DSC and MDM thresholds and cause a slight power cut on upshift. I prefer S2 with MDM. I however do love the crispness of the upshifts and the immediacy of the downshifts in S3 with DSC fully off . IMO, S3 can only be really appreciated with DSC fully off .

It's not really redundant. Using the shifter lets you switch between D and S without changing gears. Using the paddles means you have to change gears. I use this feature alot when merging in traffic to prevent the D mode from doing something unexpected.

What is the benefit compared to just shifting your self? This seems over complicated. A stock f80 isn’t exactly hard to drive or time shifts in.

Hi, Im having trouble for doing a 40 roll and 60 roll. Please correct me if I’m wrong. So I put the gear knob to the left for S rather than keeping it in drive, I hold the downshift which will throw me in the lowest gear for that speed so say 40roll, I’ll be put in second gear. Then u floor it? Will it upshift itself? This is the part I’m lost at. I’m hearing put it back into D. Thanks

Simple... put car in manual mode.
Drop to lowest gear possible for whatever speed You’re rolling from. Floor it on 3rd Honk, keep shifting at 6-6200 Rpm and hang on. Don’t rev past 6200 the power drops off and you’re slowing down. |

1. Hold downshift paddle
2. Kick Down - It will drop it to the lowest gear possible 3. Shift on you own 4. Pass the car

Unless you're running an aftermarket engine tune, you should shift at ~7,300rpm. You want to always keep in the engine on boil in the 5,500-7,300rpm powerband

Using the "auto downshift" feature will delay your acceleration, you're better off selecting the right gear before the launch from roll. While at part throttle rolling at constant speed, you need flick the paddle multiple times until you get the desired optimal gear for the speed you are at (40mph -> 2nd gear; 60mph -> 3rd gear).

Would prefer to keep in D mode for a roll race (for optimal acceleration) though wondering if s3 or d3 would be better in this situation, with aftermarket tune.. |

DCT shift points in D are optimized for the stock tune, so they might not be optimal for your specific tune.

What I heard was putting it in sport + then moving the shifter to S , doing the kick down which puts your rpms high then do the 3 honks or whatever then floor it is the best way , I may be wrong though

If it's a 3 honk race or you are side by side. You always want to be in manual and lowest possible gear above 4000 rpm. Shift at 6200-6500 max. The car will do the rest.

Papa's right. You shift at 6500 max, unless you're running out a gear to 7100 to finish a race without an additional shift. On stock motor, stock turbo, with any tune, power drops off from 6200 onward. If you go into the 7K Band things start to wear, and there's no benefit.

The truth of the matter is you red line first and second.
3rd = 7k Rest at 6500. To the poster saying redline every gear, it's only suggested if your race is going to end up in the 270kmh+ range where you would end up out of your powerband early. For reasonable roll races shift at 7k 3rd, and 6500 the rest. |
