The standard wheels (and virtually every 19" wheel) have the same issue unfortunately.

Obviously less of a safety concern with aluminum vs. carbon, but still a problem. Tolerances are just a bit too tight.

FI-Rs came out in 2015, so maybe it would have been possible. BMW was likely wary of potential warrantability of a brand new, ultralight wheel like the FI-R. They needed a wheel that was strong for track use and could clear the CCBs, so they modified the 666M.

I believe the intent was for most owners to go with the carbon wheel and clubsport options - the carbon wheel (681M) was specially designed for the GTS. No one did because they were $$$ and ugly - they perhaps should have been included rather than an optional extra.
My point wasn't that one would expect BMW to supply BBS FI-Rs as a factory option; rather, get it done yourself especially since BBS sells them in F8x spec.

BMW is too bottom-line savvy to shove $2K+ per corner wheels that don't scale, thus the decision to go with value-tier SAI as an M Performance wheel supplier.

Case in point, Bugatti offers their Chiron Pur Sport with BBS FI-Rs. MSRP $4M. 🍾

It's spoken for - very clean car, I went all OCD on it... every system has been upgraded (cams, E46 M3 transmission swap, 997 brake upgrade, new custom black/silver grey interior (courtesy of @bmwrestoredseats), and more.

I'd actually go through the extra expense to swap out chromey old for the LCI darkened headlights, black out the rear spoiler uprights and remove the orange bits. Job done.

Enjoy!
I'm actually talking with IND about getting a set of FI-Rs with Acid Orange accents, so it looks factory-ish but isn't. I did swap the factory wing for the Vorsteiner one *for street use*, primarily because I feel it visually flows with the lines better and I'm < 120mph on the street.

The chrome on the headlights bothers me; I'm on the hunt for a clean set of used ones to ship off to @oneeightynyc to have them blacked out. They did a set about 18 months back that they refinished in black with acid orange and I think it'd fit the GTS well.

The acid orange has grown on me - it's distinct and helps identify the car. I plan on blacking out the uprights; I've already swapped the badging with blacked-out versions from IND.

@1bmwaddict had some amazing HRE wheels perfectly matching the GTS acid orange color

The downside is that I've got to sell the resto-modded 1999 M3 that I've spent the past 3 years building, but... more looking forward to the GTS.

It may see the track, it may not - I've got thousands of hot laps on 2 wheels from another lifetime over a decade ago. Overpaid by a little bit, but the car was close and clean. It will see tons of photos, and probably a few mods, as I tend to tinker in the garage and shoot pictures out and about (IG: @mpower_ryan).

GTS looks outstanding!

What were you ridding for the two wheel hot laps?

I thought I was the only one with that OCD. Currently have 2 M3's and a Z4M. Will eventually get an M2 of some kind.

Absolutely love the color choices, congrats on the new GTS.
