Is this normal auto shifting?

When I'm in my M1 settings:
Throttle - sport+
Steering - comfort
Damping - comfort
Shifting - Auto sport+

I notice sometimes that it *really* hangs on to the Rev ranges, particularly 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th.
Not all the time, but a lot of the time it will get up to 5k rpm before it decides to upshift.
I don't mind this, and I know I'm in the most aggressive shift setting, but I wondered if this is normal behaviour?

I'm still relatively new to this, and it's my first M car, so thanks in advance for the help

Pretty normal, sport+ Auto will hang rpms especially if your kind of aggressive with the throttle.

What is your transmission setting? Is it D1/D2/D3? D2 will hang a little and D3 will hang a lot to keep it in the revs. D1 wants to keep in the highest gear.

There is no "Auto sport+" setting for "Shifting".

Unrelated to the M Drive settings (throttle, suspension, steering), the transmission is in either Drive Mode (automatic) or Sequential Mode (manual). The responsiveness of shifting in either mode is controlled by DriveLogic, the button directly aft of the shift lever.

In Drive Mode you have your choice of three settings:
▷ 1: efficient driving.
▷ 2: relaxed driving.
▷ 3: sporty driving.

In Sequential mode, you have your choice of three settings:
▷ 1: comfortable shifting operations.
▷ 2: sporty, fast shifting operations.
▷ 3: maximum shifting speed, including Launch Control

These settings are often referred to D1, D2, or D3 for Drive Mode and S1, S2, and S3 for Sequential Mode. You can save all of these settings to either M1 or M2 button.

The source for this information is the Owner's Manual for my 2016 M4, which operates exactly the same for all F8x M3/M4 models for all available years, as well as the 5 years of experience I have in my M4.

I use D2 because of that reason. D3 just holds way to high revs for the street.

If you're driving in D3 and "it *really* hangs on to the Rev ranges, particularly 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th" then just press the DriveLogic button twice to put it in D2. Problem solved.

Yes, D3 hangs and keeps it up in the higher rev, it's the most aggressive shifting.
