Saw what I think was a skyscraper grey (nardo-esque) G82 driving toward me today and it is just massive looking from the front... the giant fish mouth combined with the disproportionally wide front arches and the bug-eyed headlights give it an insanely bulbous and chubby road presence in that color (probably all lighter colors). I think a massive factor in how big the G82 comes off is the lack of strong/defined body lines as I don't think the G20/G80 comes off quite as large.

None of this was apparent to me seeing them in the show room, but in the wild, man I just can't get down with it. Sedan_Clan I know we both love Brooklyn Grey, but I'm thinking dark color like black, tanz, or an individual color is the move on G82 now that I've seen some on the road - it'll help hide the fascia a bit, visually shrink the car's proportions, and draw attention away from how smooth the side is. Definitely needs lowering and possibly spacing too, but that's easy.
And that's one of the crazy things, despite the bigger size and increased weight, the G82 has smaller rear living quarters than the F82 does .

Looks good. I think Portimao Blue looks great on the G80. Congrats on the order.

What's the spec of your new ride?

I went a 6MT M4 in Brooklyn Gray with Yas Marina/Black/São Paulo Yellow accented Full Leather interior. I ordered the carbon fiber bucket seats, carbon fiber interior trim, 19"/20" bi-color 826M wheels, Executive Package, Shadowline headlights, and M Drive Professional. I feel like I'm missing an option, but that's basically it. I plan to immediately drop the car, add spacers and get the black accents on the lower parts of the car painted Brooklyn Gray. I didn't add Shadowline exterior trim, so my trunk spoiler and mirrors will come body colored from the factory. Once available from the aftermarket, I will add a carbon fiber rear diffuser and a front lip.

I'm so fucking bored. I'm looking at bikes these days cuz cars ain't cutting it. I still have nowhere to drive.
This pretty much sums it up for me. None of the new cars I can afford do anything for me. The cars I would actually want cost $150k+ and thats never happening. Retreads Ive already had seem like cool ideas until it gets time to actually buy one then I'm meh. My fire for cars in general is starting to die.

Looks better but still doesn't fix the Lexus tail lights and protruding anus

I'm hoping aftermarket diffusers fix some of the protrusion, but if not, it's something I can live with.

Nicely done! I like the idea of painting the black accents to pair with the body colored mirrors and spoiler. I have yet to see the Yas interior in person, but I bet it will look killer.

Felt the exact same way. This will sound crazy, but I ended up with a 2020 STI. It was the only car I could think of that was affordable and mildly interesting. It feels like the exact same car as 15 years ago, and I'm having a hell of a time with it so far. Simple tune wakes it up a lot and it's a lot of fun. There are faster and objectively better cars, but there's absolutely nothing on the market that feels like the Subaru. Last of the breed of the types of cars the way they used to make them.

After realizing the M3 was too much power for me to have fun on the street, I went down market and I'm having way more fun. It's a fantastic car held back by a crap stock tune. Even a Cobb OTS goes a long way. The car doesn't need a ton of power to be fun with how aggressive the gearing is.

Haha thank you, although I'm well aware it won't be a popular move on this forum. I just like what I like and the way a car feels is more important to me than the numbers. The STI feels like it's from a different era. Maybe it's nostalgia, but to me the suspension is just so well sorted with 18 inch wheels and the confidence it gives in corners is what I was looking for. Such a fun car for winding roads.

I’m 100% with you, which is why my next “fun” car will likely have less power and focus on feel. The M3 is like a 100 watt Plexi, sure you can play with it at low volumes and have a decent time but it really comes alive when you crank it and no way you’re doing that in your bedroom. I’d rather just play through a 10-water and get the feel of cranked compression/saturation without having to play at uncomfortable volumes (relatively speaking as 10 watters are still fkn loud)

congrats on the STI! I have a soft spot for those cars as well and completely agree about having too much power for the street for most situations with the F80! I actually parked the F80 for the past couple weeks and have been driving my Mini GP1. Moving back to something a bit more analog and not very fast has been very satisfying. It's also nice to wind out a couple gears and not be going nearly triple digits; it's a similar experience in my S2000, but not nearly as practical.

Apparently I have stirred up drama, and somehow am a "ring leader" of this group according to posters on the new G8X thread (MotorTrend: 2021 BMW M3 Competition First Test: Facing the Facts https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1818661) just because I post in here. I'm not even the OP of this thread lol, I must have brainwashed all of you into hating the G8X and forced you into posting your dislike here with a gun to your head.

I literally mainly post in here and in the non-BMW off topic forums. When I do venture into other forums I'm usually congratulating owners on cars or helping answer there questions. In spy shot threads I'm gonna share my opinion because that's literally one of the purposes of a spy shot thread. The difference is I'm not someone who just puts a grill meme in and leaves, when I give my critiques of a car I actually say why and explain respectfully and I don't disrespect other members. Not to mention my dislike is only of a few models (2GC, M3/4, iX, 5er), I literally like and would buy (even though I'm not in the market) a good portion of BMW's like the RWD 2, 3er, 8er, Z4, and RWD based X's and have expressed so in this thread and other forums (I literally have an in-depth and thorough review on the G2X that praised BMW for listening to critiques).

I see no issue with this thread, I'm here for the discussion. We keep our thoughts here, separate from the G8X forum. As I've said before this thread has developed solely from a G8X meme to an actual continuing discussion between members regarding not just the G8X, but all BMW's and cars of different makes and models. The posts are all kept in here out of harms way.

Also, the only reason we hate the G8X is because someone on the internet told me I should hate the car...

I’ve still yet to see one in the flesh, but the constant front page articles, the stupid YouTube videos, continually looking at these threads, I think the black g80 is growing on me. I also haven’t driven my F80 in about 2 weeks due to a vacation and constant EDC errors with my Bilstein Damptronic b16 dampers (ordered some static coilovers... getting rid of the crappy b16s and coding out EDC). Hopefully after getting my static coilovers installed this weekend at EAS and driving my F80 again will change my mind!
Stockholm Syndrome. *joking*

And if anything I only actually dislike a small number of cars in the entire lineup (2GC, M3/4, 5er, 7er, and iX).
If anything this thread have shown me how much is happening in the industry that I had no idea about, I especially appreciate your posts with generals news as they all matter in the discussion to some degree, even relatable to the F8X from the EV side.

I don't know why they care to read up in here, clearly we're not wanted on their side of the forums because we are of differing opinions and that is too much for some.

At least Sedan_Clan doesn't fully hate us yet and still talks to us even if we dislike the G

Yep, I got some shots of the camo G80 that parked next to me at the Nürburgring last summer and I was pretty hyped and took a lot of close up shots/interior of it. Felt like Christmas and the M drivers was looking at me just smiling as I photographed the two together.

Fast forward to now... Yeaah, I really can't get over the design at all.
It really isn't for me and that is sad but at the same time I can put more love into my F82 and save some money at the same time

That said, unless something radical changes, my next step is all electric as much as it pains me to realize and say this, I don't have the income to get to a big Porsche and maintain increasingly big taxation of ICE and I hate leasing as it just doesn't feel the same and leasing isn't that great here anyways.

And after reading this thread I've come to realize what I love about cars isn't power or 0-60, it never really was, it's just been obfuscating the passion with easy numbers to beat the competition at something completely meaningless, it's the over-all package of daily engagement on the street (something the F8X is even too much without without breaking the limits big time), being able to drive it for hours, cross country, to another country, do a track day and drive back home, comfortable yet sporty with enough cargo space for me and my.

A canyon run, twisted roads after a long day at work, the raw feel (which I think the G8X have numbed).

That's what puts a smile on my face, and I really don't feel the G8X captures this emotion for me for multiple reasons.

It's why I never liked the Mercs or Audis, they're awesome but they never captured me like an M did and design is probably a huge factor here as well as environmental factors since M was always THE car to get and seeing how things are progression, never will I think, neither will M again by the looks of it.

I’d rather just play through a 10-water and get the feel of cranked compression/saturation without having to play at uncomfortable volumes (relatively speaking as 10 watters are still fkn loud)
I was actually thinking of the new brz / 86 as my next car or possibly side car with the f80. Something about a new, cheap slow car fast intrigued me.
