Apple CarPlay ID4 -> ID6 easy upgrade!

So I just wanted to say, huge shout out to kubax86 for the great work!
I was hesitant on wether going the full retrofit route or having him flash my ID4 to ID6 but now I'm convinced i did the right thing.

All you're going to need is an Enet Cable, USB stick, a car battery charger, laptop and WiFi antenna.

Overall If you're like me and want to add wireless apple CarPlay without spending $1500 please send him a message.

Only Screen Mirroring.
Android Auto is supported from iDrive 7 which is not available in F series.

Any noteable changes of doing the reflash versus the full retrofit? Surely there must be some otherwise everyone would take the cheaper route if the results are the same.

No, only for MY2016 - cars equipped in NBT EVO iDrive 4 headunit.

FOR MY15 you need hardware swap.

Any video links of this in action? (Before/after) on the fence, but I know sometimes these upgrades can get laggy with the lack of RAM and people end up switching back or upgrading the hardware altogether.

It works really nice and seamless. I suggest to ask my customers who did this.
Also our solution is not like others - works really stable.

It is super easy to install the antenna. I'm not one to mess with electronics but it literally takes less than 20 minutes. The thing that took me the longest was removing the door lock connector.

Do you know if the bimmercode/MMI will still work with this upgrade? I'd like to keep android auto and my aftermarket cameras. Also, can I upgrade to touch screen with this flash? Replace my2016 with a 2018 model screen. Thanks.

You can't upgrade to touch screen. NBT EVO ID4 hardware doesn't support APIX2 screens.

I don't know about MMIs - i'm not the manufacturer of them and can't tell.

Ah, do you know if the 2018 screen will at least still display, dont need the touch function for BMW OEM stuff-- I think the MMI can support the touch feature, even if the NBT EVO unit can not.

No, you can’t use 2018 display.

Questions for the OP who has this in their car:

1. Do the steering wheel controls work with ID6 flash? Can it be used to control spotify on Carplay? Does it do anything with Maps?

2. Does the iDrive control knob handwriting feature work with Carplay?

3. Any chance of getting HUD directions with Apple Maps when using the ID6 flash?

4. What happens if there is a warranty or recall service on the car that requires the car to be coded?

5. Is the flash reversible?

I believe once I have carplay that will be the primary interface I use so the MMI unit seems better as it is fully reversible. Unless ID6 flash provides any of the capabilities above, in which case, I'd very much prefer that.
