Man this paint is soft.

I have a 18' F80 in silverstone Did a quick wash today and noticed a ton of minor chips and scratches. Some in odd places - rear valance and upper panels.

My basalt black 991 was bullet proof in comparison.

Clear coat doesn't scratch itself. Both chips and scratches can be avoided with proper care and driving style. Some colors are harder to keep clean of course.

Sorry to hear. Those micro scratches, which sound like love marks, can be frustrating. You mention you did a quick wash. How do you wash it? How do you dry it (which is when it can be easy to mar if you don’t use a drying aid and a good quality microfiber)? If the car is not new to you, is it possible those scratches were introduced by the previous owner?

I’ve found BMW paints to be somewhat easy to correct, but of course being mindful that there is only so much clear cost to work with.

Anyway, hope you can get it sorted.

Do you have spacers or tires that are wider than stock? Could be why you have a lot of rock chips in weird places

It's better than ALOT of other oems. Sounds like maintenance is your issue.

I'm pretty good about washing procedures. I would classify these as wash errors.

No spacers and the car only has 25k miles.

Oh well. Don't have to be so obsessive anymore. Which is kind of nice.

i have a few chips on my SS front bumper at 30k miles. its inevitable. best advice is maintain distance on the highway. especially trucks.

not sure how you are seeing scratches. SS does a good job of hiding any scratches/swirls/dirt.

My best advice would be to touch up the paint and buff it out. And than have a clear bra installation over the whole car done by a professional shop. As well as have it ceramic coated. However I understand everybody's circumstances and budgets are different so take it as you will. I see you're from Virginia so I'm not sure how the roads are down there, but I would definitely advise staying away from big trucks and behind other vehicles. I just got a big rock chip on my 335i windshield and my heart sunk a little.

I do paint correction on the side and yes, I have notice that the paint on my 2019 is one of the softest I have dealt with. I wash my car pretty regularly and try to touch it a little as possible (my car is black). I have dedicated super soft and thick drying towels and polishing microfibers rags just for this car.
