C8 corvette
Soooo...On a whim today I decide to pull into a local Chevy dealer to see if they have a C8 Corvette and lo and behold they had one that is not sold sitting on their lot.
Spent about 10 minutes talking with the “corvette specialist “ sales guy...older guy and has been selling Chevys for 40 + years I guess. Super nice guy! Jokingly I offered him 100 bucks for me to test drive it. Much to my surprise he said let me go get the keys! Seriously the guy never once asked me if I was interested in buying the car... unbelievable! As he carefully peeled off the window sticker I glanced down and saw the car had only 3 miles on it, It was a short test drive maybe 3 -4 miles just putting around local streets, Of course I wish I could’ve driven it harder and longer but nonetheless what a thrill. This was a fully loaded 3LT z51 ... it’s true what you’ve read the interior quality has stepped up ... The DCT was so smooth, none of that clunky parking lot speed jerkiness we get in our F8x. This C8 had the front nose lift which was really cool, however it was really noisy going up but quiet going down. Anyway I just wanted to share... i’m still in shock I got to drive it, and still a little excited about the experience, I could definitely see getting one of these once the prices come down to where they should be. |

Sweet car, but the exterior color is awful! What color is it: brown, gray, green? The all tan leather interior looks like Ferrari's interiors, big improvement over previous Corvettes.

Yeah it’s a interesting color to say the least I forget what they call it, The “Corvette guy “ actually ordered this color on purpose The guy appeared to be in his late 70s .

The wheels on these Vettes just ruin the whole look. Can’t they offer decent forged wheels with proper offset, you would think Chevy would learn from the C7 wheel lawsuit disaster.
Its like wearing Armani suit with shoes from Payless. |

I applaud the direction they went with that overall platform. It's the details that still make it seem cheap in my eyes. I just can't make myself like it. That rear end is a horror show.
Also if one of your design principles is it needs to carry two sets of golf clubs. I'm out, if you need to carry two sets of golf clubs take the other car. |

Love the interior color (even if it is old man beige) not a fan of the bronze/brown exterior though. That being said I did sit in a new C8 Convertible which just arrived at my local dealer and the interior is shockingly impressive in regards to materials and switchgear, and I'm sure its a hoot to drive. GM has a huge success on their hands, markups everywhere, new or used, models sold out through the year, not to mention, they have reached a new clientele with the C8.

Agree. You have to be a die hard fan boy to not recognize what Chevy has accomplished with this car.

I fully respect what they did, I have owned a Vette. That's also why I may be resisting as that car was a total POS and I haven't gotten over it.
I want to like it and maybe the Z06 will change my mind. |

not sure why you're saying our DCT is clunky.
it's not in setting 1. it's extremely smooth like in the old man spec corvette you tested; a car they designed for comfort, and golf bags, and driving slow. in setting 3 our DCT is clunky at old man speeds, yes. there are settings for every type of driver. |

The color is Zeus Bronze. I didn't care for it from the photos either until I saw one at a cars and coffee event. It look a lot better in real. I didn't care for Sakhir Orange when I saw it in the car magazines either. But when I saw it on an M4 in the dealers showroom back in 2014, well, a couple of weeks later, I was placing an order and 4 months later, I took delivery of my then new SO M4 with the SO/black full leather interior, moonrooof, and 6MT. And yes, it's in my garage as I write this.

Interior is definitely a step up but that steering wheel shape would drive me crazy. It was bad enough when they started putting flat bottom steering wheels on cars now this.

I put the C8 in "sport" and "track" mode and both behaved better than our cars in parking lots and starting from a dead stop. Just sayin the DCT in the new vette seems real good. Don't take it personal. BTW: the only spec that was "old man" was the colors. Its a Z51 not a base car. Designed for driving slow? do you really believe what you said? just for fun why don't you Google lap times on the Z51 C8 and see all the other slow cars its competing with and compared to. While I respect what the Corvette has accomplished over the years, I just don't get excited by them.
As unpractical as it was I went with the Viper just because it excites me. I haven't had the chance to get into the C8 yet, maybe it will be better. |
