for sure, just like now.. base c7 looks awful until a z06/zr1 pulls up. i have confidence GM will make the models that actually matter look much better.

Prefacing with; I haven't seen one in the metal yet, but I'm in no rush to buy so if I dislike it purely on looks, it's not an option.

I didn't think this would really be on my radar until a couple weeks back when I had the opportunity to drive a mid-engined car in some anger for the first time.

After putting 250 or so miles on a 570S - about 140 of that on great driving roads - I know that an MR layout is something I need to have for myself at some point in the mid-term future. A 911 is still the likely next weekend toy that I end up with, though an MR car that I can get into for under 6 figures base on a GS/Z06 is one that has to be considered once I am seriously shopping.

Obviously, need to drive one once they're out, and keep tabs on how the interior/overall build quality is holding up for a couple model years. But, if they've been reliable and the interior works for me the pricing is too good to flat dismiss.

A boxster/cayman is out for me simply on sizing; a CPO GT4 would be a very tempting option right now solely on impulse if not.

I have a close friend that owns 4 Chevy dealerships. He also has been less than enthusiastic about it and made a comment to me a few weeks back about concerns of it being down on stated power and stated specs. I guess well see soon enough.

RE: 992 Turbo S

A close friend of mine just had some seat time in a 992 Turbo S. That car is truly exciting. It is wider than the standard 992, has 295s on the front and is around 2.0 to 2.1 0-60. Hyper car performance with every day drivability and comfort at a fraction of hyper car prices.
I think it's high time you made some new friends, because they've been bullshitting you about tire sizes, performance numbers and power.

As with the 992 Carrera models, the wheel sizes are now staggered, with the Turbo S getting 20-inch front and 21-inch rear center-locking alloys with a cool retro five-spoke design. Tire sizes are big, too. The front gets Turbo-exclusive 255/35 tires, while the rears measure 315/30. As stated by road and track.

As for the performance numbers and being down on power, motor trend just published the first performance numbers .

0-60. 2.8 seconds

Braking in 97 feet.

That's Carrera s beating times. We'll Done Chevy!

Lawdy, angry stalking little dude aren’t we.

The comment about Vette power was made to me back in October. Could it just be possible that it was true then and addressed now?

Hahaha, I definitely misspoke or brain farted on tire sizes lol, but not on performance numbers of the 992 Turbo.

Here’s the reality, you can be all agro, stalk me or bust my balls and be the man on the net or whatever. More power to you. Meanwhile, I will be driving a 992 Turbo soon enough and will be supremely happy whether it is a 2.0 or 2.5 to 60 car. Will put a smile on my face either way!

Actually, cool video. Doesn't look horrible and nice to see Chevy take the Vette in this direction. More commentary about understeer though.

For $88K, however, I would try and find a nice 2010-12 997.2 turbo or turbo S for similar price which had same or a little better performance and would have already depreciated. You jump in a 997.2 Turbo, drive it for a year or two and likely sell it for same or similar price provided you don't wreck it or put too many miles on it.

Check out this 992 S vs base c8 with z51 pack

Edit : 1:22.68 (not 1:22.8, thanks for catching that porsche fans) for 992 vs 1:23.0 for c8 with Andy Pilgrim driving

Nice showing by Porsche to maintain its benchmark status and lay down a great time with lesser power and hurray for Chevy for bringing basically that same performance level to the Everyman (chevy almost half the cost of porsche)

Cool video, the Vette made a nice showing and looks pretty decent in that color.

Porsche actually did a 1:22.68 not a 1:22.8, but close enough.

Thanks. I edited it.

I can’t find Randy P’s drive in a 2015 m4 but I recall it being 1:34 or something like that, so it’s a big gap between these 2 cars and stock f8x

you're so off. lol. I had to look it up because the difference you suggested didn't make any sense.

this basically means randy can likely run a 1:20 or 1:21 in the 992 or C8.

You’re right. I confused big willow and streets.

Randy ran 1:32.xx at big willow, so I was off there anyway in my recollection. source

I loved my 09 Z06... I don’t love the styling of the C8 but would definitely buy one if it had a manual option. I was SUPER disappointed when it was announced it wouldn’t... I doubt that’ll change for the Z06/ZR1... but I can hope. Would love to jump into a Z06 again when I don’t need 4 seats... although I’ll likely go the P-car route (dreaming of GT3’s and GT4’s these days).

I saw a new all black, everything blacked out and tinted, C8 with a wing on it Friday. Menacing and all black is the way to go.

Saw my second c8 on the road yesterday this time in red. I actually didn't like the look of it at all when it passed by as it appeared way too angular and odd looking.

I concur, black does look menacing. I'd drop the wing though.

I think it needs some kind of ducktail spoiler or one that's a bit more rounded because the rear of the car is so square and flat.

Other than that, people need to realise this is a base C8. The ones to buy from an enthusiasts perspective will be the Z06 and Grand Sport.

Underdressed and a decade late to the mid engine party.

While the performance is admirable, the car is a melting pot of what other manufactures have been developing for years. Each angle blatantly pulls a silhouette from a competitor. Sure the Z06/ZR1 is going to be great - hell the Z51 is - and awesome Randy’s laptimes will be a great cover for Road & Track, but the car lacks soul and is more of a “had to do it” vs a “look what we developed”.

IMO, the midengine platform would’ve been better suited in Cadillac’s lineup as a flagship vehicle. The Corvette should’ve stayed front engine and RWD. Can’t wait to see these roaming around town thinking they’re a Ferrari/McLaren at first glance...

I need to see one in person. but the shape doesn't work for me so far in pics. the trunk is way too long because they just had to have rear trunk space. delete that, and add a more aggressive wheel and tire combo and they may have something.

wouldn't pick one over a 911. But over a 4 cylinder cayman? I think so.
C8 vs 5th Gen Viper is also an interesting one for 70-80k... I might have to go viper.

I also have a 458, on my third, and love the 458 looks wise. The C8 is everything the 458 is not. The 458 is smooth and flowing. The C8 looks choppy and angular. I did not like the C8 at all in pictures and still do not like it in any color, but black. The black turning right from a distance toward me and heading toward me on the road looked really bad arse though. Took me a second to realize it was a Vette.
