Actually, nowhere in the video says that the clunking was solved, only the parts replaced.

Having the same issue. Lowered on Swift Springs for about 6k miles and no issues until now. Seems like the people who found a fix for this all had different areas on where they fixed the issue. I'm currently out of warranty and I wish there was a definitive resolution so I can let my guy know and he can fix it.

Anywho, subscribed and hoping to see a solution soon!

Is this your actual steering rack? Did you really have to get it out to access that?

Had a. front passenger side clunk. Went away after changing the thrust arm. Car is in shop for a clang on that side now. 2016 stock 12k miles f80.

no, just for illustration, you can have acces to the bolt with the steering rack in the car

Hi,

I am having the same issue with my M2. BMW have apparently checked the car twice now and there is nothing wrong! 😢

Starting to do my head in - any ideas?

My car is 6 months old, covered 3000 miles and is running BMW M Performance coilovers. Just to note, the car made this noise before the coilovers which BMW installed.

This is the noise I'm getting but only under 40mph and front the front end obviously. Do you think it will be the same thing?

Same thing here, it seems like only on the front passenger side under 40 mph or so, not as constant as the above video there but similar noise. 45k miles 2015 F82. Has anyone made further progress on narrowing this down? Seems like there are a few things that it could be. Thanks!

Looking at the video doesn't seem like there anything to adjust. The outer part looks just like a cap sealing the PS fluid inside? Also that person posted that video 2 months ago and said he will have a follow up video. I'm guessing there is a possibility his fix wasn't actually the fix?

This video was posted in the "other" BMW forum yesterday from its creator, so it seems that the fix worked.

The adjust comes from Post #31 recommendation, and in the video it says that it is not recommended due to concerns about rack long term reliability. And still in the thread this person says that if the repair still shows some noise then further adjust could be required.

So it seems that the fix involves both the repair and some adjustment.

I have this front left noise since I lowered the front, and I will asking my dealer about both the repair kit and the adjustment at my next service appointment. This seems to be an F3x/F8x steering rack issue, but what is not clear is if this noise is caused by lowering the front and changing the steering rack angle or a noise that eventually shows up due to excessive wear and thus the OEM repair kit. One is not a defect as it is user caused, but the other may be a defect.

I have the same FL clunk/rattle. My M4 suspension is completely stock.

Good news, the clunk some of us have is definitely an issue with M steering rack and is covered by warranty.
Bad news, there is no kit for the F8x, my dealer ordered the complete electric steering gear part, which I believe is part 1 in this diagram!

The kit that is referenced above and in other thread isn't for the F8x. Given that kit came out one month ago for F3x, maybe its likely an equivalent kit will be made available for F8x. Those outside warranty will pay $$$ ...

I made an appointment at my dealer to try and remedy this light clunking sound. It's been more pronounced on my recently purchased 15' with 27k miles. Luckily I have an extended warranty if it turns out to be the whole steering rack.

Wonder how common this is. Seems like a good amount of people have this noise issue, regardless of coil kit / springs.

So I see I’m not the only one. I have 11K mile on a 2017 M3 as of today and apparently I had multiple issues and have only resolved one so far. I have the M Performance Coil Overs, though the cars is not lowered, and I have the DINAN anti-roll bar. I had a recurring problem with the stabilizer links coming loose, but we resolved that recently with custom links form Ground Control and that got rid of one rattle/knock, but the other one is still there.

Like many of you, even the smallest imperfections at a low speed with make the thump, and though it feels like it is coming from the driver side, when I sit in the passenger side, it feels the exact same, as though it is coming from the passenger side. On the highway, it is not as prevalent or not as noticeable, but just driving around in my neighborhood at 10 MPH I can hear it clearly.

I’m not sure if it is related to the big clunk I hear at high spreads when both front tires hit a hump in the road at the same time. A big hollow clunk. It does not sound like the car is bottoming out or the struts are being fully compressed and it’s a bang on the frame, it’s just a big hollow clunk. Does not happen if the just one tire hits a bump. It always happens if they both do, like a sudden change in elevation. I found the DINAN cold air intake will actually hit the carbon fiber brace when bounced, but not sure that is generating such a loud noise.

What’s the latest resolution of the non-stop low speed clunking?

Oh, I hear ya. I‘ve had it happen 4 times now. Two scratches on the steering will, a large scuff on the face of a rim, and puncture mark on the diver side arm rest. I know what you feel.

I took my M2 to the dealer to try and fix this and just got the word that they found nothing wrong with the car... this clunking noise is so annoying.
