Driveshaft recall issued for certain 2016-2017 BMW M3 and M4

Call them when VIN indicates remedy for recall.

I called bmwwusa first and then they gave me the ok to call the dealer. At first they said they are not servicing that recall yet, but when I told them BMW said to call..they ordered the part no questions asked after that

I have a flash tune on my car
I am taking my car to the dealership next week to get the recall done

Should I or do I need to flash back to stock ? Are they going to update any software ?

So I called the local dealer and they said for me to come in to get an inspection to see if the driveshaft needs to be replace. If it does, then they’ll order the part.

Surprised they want an inspection...if your vin falls in the recall, it should be replaced no questions asked

I actually contacted 2 dealers about this. First one said I had to bring my car in before the part is ordered and it wouldn't be safe for me to drive in the meantime. Second one said they will order it now and I can bring it in when it arrives. Glad I went with the second one since I don't want my car sitting in the back of their lot for who knows how long.

Getting mine back after having it sit for a month and a half at the dealer. So don't turn it in!

Just got mine back today. Got the part the next day and install took only a couple hours. As for how it feels, it could be placebo, but it feels smoother and better. I don't know if it is steel or CF. Maybe it feels a tiny bit less powerful but the power delivery in conjunction with the transmission is smoother. Had a loaner 330i m sport brand new and I was so happy to get back in my 2017 m4. Too many buttons inside and the driving assistance nannies were intrusive. Also the suspension on the freeway couldn't compare.

You should look forward to the recall and report back on your experiences after!

Dealers called me this morning telling me the parts arrived. I went in with my M3 and got a loaner car went back home , waited about 5 hours they called me around 2 pm telling me the car is ready for pick up at 3:00 pm. Got my car back the same day!!!
Also it's carbon drive shaft !

Update on my original post.

I took my car to the dealer for inspection at 740 am. At 12 pm, I received a call saying the driveshaft does need to be replace and the parts will be ordered and should arrive tomorrow morning. At 2 pm the following day, I received a call saying my car is done and washed, ready for pickup. The paperwork says it is a carbon fiber driveshaft that was ordered and replaced.

Those who have gotten theirs replaced how many miles did the service department put on your car while it was in? They put 42 miles on mine so I'm wondering if that's standard.

3 miles on mine

Maybe they went and got lunch and ran some errands

Mine took one day to replace when it finally came in.
