Beautiful car, if I were building one it would be very similar. That is quite the experience you had. I hope to one day do a ED and have a similar experience. Thanks for sharing.

Was this your first time in Europe? As a European, it's funny reading your impressions of what you saw over there (in a good way!).

Yes it was my first time.

Please tell me which ones are way off. Obviously they were superficial observations based off of two weeks. I wish there was US delivery for the X family. I would love to see first time European impressions of the US.

Ha nice!

Well Amsterdam is mandatory of course. But then...we don't have many special places really. No Grand Canyons or any mountains whatsoever.

Let me think about it.

Oh I forgot to ask, why do they tell you not to take the car into Lichtenstein? It's the first time I read about this.

I don't think any of them were off mate. I don't know your age, but since you mention you have a son, you're probably a bit older and it must have been quite a lot to take in being in Europe for the first time. For such a relatively small place, each country (and even parts within the country) can be very different. I'm from Belgium, and it doesn't take me long to get to France or Germany but yet those countries are "holiday" destinations for us. I'm from Bruges, in Belgium, and my wife and I went on holiday in the Champagne region this summer. It was a 3 hour drive, but the region, people, and everything is very different. When I drive for three hours here in Texas, I'm in Dallas

And yes, I think AD (American Delivery) for the X-family for Europeans would be interesting to see what their experiences are...

It's 2 hours in the wrong direction and you are taking a very small child. If you were going to stay overnight maybe, but not to run over say you were there and leave for Milan. Now if someone has their heart set on Venice, maybe you go for it anyway.
Great post! Thanks for sharing! I'm leaving to Germany in 3 weeks and looks like I'll be going on a similar route. I'll be going directly from Susten/Gotthard Pass and staying at a hotel in Liechtenstein/Austria back to Munich. This is part of my route:

The thick red lines are part of the Autobahn I noted as no speed limit. Is the slow speed limit you're referring to from point A to B on the map? Did you take the same E43 route?

You also mentioned something about the Gotthard Tunnel and the crazy one-way street? Is this where the Gotthard pass is? Not sure if I should consider taking another pass instead?

Last thing - I already purchased a Swiss vignette. Is there an additional toll/price to drive the Susten pass and/or other Swiss passes?

They basically said they don't recognize the German tourist plates. I think it has more to do with insurance coverage in the case of an incident.

Yes A-B was the boring part. The speed limit is just too low, plus the Swiss by reputation are very punitive with their speed limits.

Someone else mentioned the tunnel, not me.

I didn't encounter any extra tolls, but I only made it to Furka pass. Other than the vignette, you should be toll free.

How do you find out which sections of the Autobahn are no speed limit? May help in my trip planning. Thanks!

I used this link: http://www.autobahn-speedhunter.com/

Not sure how accurate it is but will probably do some more research later to confirm.
