EMD Springs F82
So I just picked up a really early build 2015 (MY 4/14) fully loaded and decided to try some springs until I find a good used set of B16 DDC's. I did a bunch of reading and number figuring comparing different ones and wanted full function of the EDC controls so decided on EMD springs. By the numbers that almost mirror the factory springs except ride height is lower.
I came across a great lightly used set from atlf80m3 and snatched them. Installed them today and giving my first impression of install. I have not driven the car, did any side shots since it is raining nor had it aligned but I did drop differential measurements. Hopefully the alignment pulls some of the camber in and raises it because...... it is way too low..... so much for EMD's numbers Factory springs, 6.5 years old, 28k miles measured from rim lip to fender lip LF 119mm RF 113mm LR 107mm RR 105mm After install LF 79mm RF 76mm LR 75mm RR 73mm Total drop w/o settling or alignment LF 40mm (1.57) RF 37mm (1.45) LR 32mm (1.25) RR 32mm (1.25) They claim 1.3 F 0.9 R.... they are way friggin off on the rear I will give it a ride soon and do some side shots Last edited by horsepower_and_hounds; 02-13-2024 at 02:29 PM.. |

They are bouncy...and I even have the CS coding done which I have read is supposed to help. I was hoping these would be close to factory springs just lower since they are linear and the rates are close to the same but you know.... monkey with stock and nothing works the same. Here is a couple of pics of it today, the light makes it look like there is some tire gap but in reality there is like none. Also the lack of tire shine...I just had the rubber put on. I have 10mm spacers on the factory wheels and tires are +1 too. Once I get it aligned i will re-shoot and take new measurements for drop confirmation

That drop is really aggressive compared to the claims. I am also in the market for springs for my M4 but now I may go with Eibach or just shell out the cash for the KW HAS Kit. I do not want a bouncy ride.
I am in Charlotte also. Steele Creek Area.

I have the same springs in my 17 m3 and they ride like stock. On the rear, you need to place the spacers to get the ride height back within the advertised range.

Found out the car had a bent strut that wasn’t so noticeable on stock springs but was exacerbated when I put on the stiffer EMDs. Thanks a lot BMW Mountain View (never buying a car from them again)! Still, the EMDs kinda sucked. They’re too short for the stock shocks and the spring can rotate freely around the shock if you hit a large bump or go over a rise at speed and the front end gets light enough. Ride quality is also pretty poor. Do not recommend. Ended up installing ohlins r&t and it was worth every penny. ******************************************* I will give it a ride soon and do some side shots I just installed these on my '17 M4 and the car is totally unbalanced now. The front right sits over 1/4" lower than the front left, and the right rear sits just under 1/4" lower than the rear right. TLDR: front and back of the right side of the car are lower than the left equivalents. The ride quality is okay on my car right now but it pulls to the right quite aggressively at moderate speeds and obviously this puts a (no pun intended) huge damper on performance. ** What did you do to fix this on your car? Did you replace them? Discover any installation errors? SOS |
