Don't want to hijack the thread but since they do not make PS4S in the oem 18s size, what is the natural progression for the 513M wheels?
265/35/18 and 285/35/18? The car will be lowered and on 15/12mm spacers, would like to avoid rubbing as much as possible. |

Figured I'd chime in.
Recently swapped the OEM star spec PSS out for 265/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rear PS4s. I think next time around I'll stick to the 255 in the front. The steering feel and turn in feels more lethargic with the 265 ps4. Rear grip is greatly improved, rear end feels much more planted. Initially ran the recommended 32psi, this is far too squishy and squirmy. 35-36 is better, but still too much roll over at speed in corners. I'm at 38 (cold - but FL so ~70-80 degrees). At temp they get to around 40-42 psi. I've found this is proper, the suspension dampening feels well matched to the tires. Are they better than the PSS? Eh, negligibly. Really not a huge difference. Most of the things I've noticed I think are more related to the change in tire size than the tires themselves. They do fill out the wheel wells a lot more, much chunkier. Overall, I think I'll give 255's up front a go next time, I think the 265 PS4 is just too much tire for the stock non-comp wheels. Pretty happy with the 275 in the rear though.

Just an update in case anyone was contemplating tire sizes/combis for the PS4S on the 20-inch 666Ms:
I was on PS4S 265/30/20s up front and PSS 285/30/20 in the rear and wasn't a fan of how the car drove, even after the mold release lubricant wore off. I think a big part of the issue was mixing the two different types of tires. I'll never do that again unless I absolutely can't help it, and even then I would try to get a full set asap. Today I switched everything out to PS4S 275/30/20s in the front and PS4S 295/30/20s in the rear, and even though they're brand new I'm really enjoying the drive already. Haven't pushed it too hard but there's a marked improvement in the grip all-around, and I don't feel any worsening of the steering response despite the wider front contact patch. 33 psi cold on all four. The thicker side wall fills the wheel well a bit better, and is noticeably more comfortable to ride on, as one should expect. Quieter for sure, though less of an issue for me since I usually drive with the top down and get a lot more ambient noise anyway. Waiting to see how it drives after breaking in, but as it stands it's already quite confidence-inspiring. Feels as if the car was meant to come fitted with 275F/295Rs on the PS4S. |

So far my 275/295 PS4S set is working well, haven't had to toy with the psi yet. |

Made in France vs. Made in USA and OEM star
Hi all - apologies if this has already been discussed as I haven't been on the forum for a while... recently got new shoes for my F82 ZCP. Noticed that my fronts were made in France and my rears were made in the USA. Didn't realize Michelin Pilot Sports here-- any meaningful difference? Also, how come the 4s do not have the star symbol that the PSS my car originally came with had on the sidewall? Thanks!

After reading the thread, was interested in the 265/285 setup that the majority seem to be a fan of, but my tire place says the 265s are backordered. All the other sizes are available though.
What would be the downside of going 255/35/19 front and 275/35/19 rears for the PS4S? Isn't that the closest to the OEM Super Sports in terms of size? I could run 255/285s but not sure if that would throw anything off. Thanks in advance for any advice. |

I would try to run 265/285 on my next set of tires, probably around early next year as this increases the side wall height and should improve on some comfort.

Worth a watch. Nice, detailed video on the difference between aftermarket and OE 4S G80 tyre.

It can also mean that the dimensions on that tire may not be directly comparable to other tires even if they have the same specifications. For example 265/35/19 with star may not have "true" 265/35/19 measurements. It might be a little narrower for example and not truly measure 265mm. If you want best and most predictable/precise tire fitment on aftermarket wheels you should choose tires without the star. |

Not sure if this was answered, but on Tire rack, I noticed there are two "generic" PS4S available in 275/35/19, that are not a specific OE spec.
One is 100Y load rating and country of origin shows US. Other is 96Y load rating and country of origin is France. What is the difference and which is recommended if I am replacing my OE star spec super sports with PS4 on factory wheels? |

I would go with 100Y if I were you.

I have a 2018 F83 completely stock with 437 wheels. OE tires are Continental Sport Contact 255/35 & 275/35. I will be looking to replace them soon and when I asked Discount Tire about the PS4S they said I couldn't get them because I currently have run-flats. This obviously can't be correct given so many of you have the PS4S. Any idea where they're coming from?
Also, would it be a good idea to move up to 265 & 285? What difference would it make? |

Eyeing up a set of PS4S. Anticipated upsizing to 265/285-35R19 on my 437s as many in this thread have done. But the BMW Star OE version seems super cool and are side tracking me. The widths don't look right. Am I reading the specs correctly? tirerack lists tread width on the BMW Star PS4S rear 275s as only 8.9" where the front 255s are listed as 9" even. Still reading/searching through this thread to see if it was already discussed.
edit: Forgot that the G80 star spec 275 tire is a Front tire, and that tread width makes sense.. Still seems silly to call that a 275 tire. Last edited by agentrnge; 06-10-2021 at 10:48 PM.. |
