F80 M3 - Weekend Driver - Tire Choice for 513M 18” Wheels

Hi All,

I recently got a 2015 M3 6spd with the 19” 437M wheels. They have fairly worn Michelin’s Pilot AS3+ tires on them now that need replaced. I enjoy the tight turn in but ride is super harsh. I found a good deal on a set of 18” 513M wheels and love the look of them. Will be switching to those but need to choose a tire. The car is a weekend driver, no track time, just spirited drives on Ohio roads. What should I go with:

1. 255/40/18 & 275/40/18 MPSS Tires

2. 265/40/18 & 285/40/18 MPS 4S Tires

3. 265/40/18 & 285/40/18 ContiExtremeContact Sport

4. Something else? Different tire? Wider with 35 aspect ratio?

Planning to keep the car stock completely. No drop and no performance mods. Considering all this, what would you all recommend if I’m prioritizing the following in order - Traction, Turn in Responsiveness, Comfort, Look.

Thanks

I swapped from 20" MPSS to 20" MPS4S a few months ago. You lose the slightest edge of handling grip when swapping to the 4S - BUT you gain a bit in ride comfort, have less road noise, and get much better grip on wet surfaces.

In your position where you're spiritedly driving, not tracking, and may have some rainfall, the 4S are an upgrade in every way and they have my vote.

Haven't tried the Continentals, though I hear good things about them.

Your 513M are 18x9 ET29 and 18x10 ET40, correct? Normal spec for those are 255/40-18 and 275/40-18 for both MPSS and MPS4S - though I don't see why you couldn't fit those 265/285 you listed.

If would go for MPS4s if they are available in your area. Continental ECS would be runner up.

I run Goodyear F1 Supersport, stock 18" sizing, which makes it the only true alternative to PSS. And they're better especially in the wet.

Unfortunately PS4S aren't available in the stock size. I'm afraid if I go up to 265 and 285 by 40 18 then the sidewalls will get too tall and combined with the softer sidewall.. the turn in / responsiveness will suffer more than any sort of performance gain... I love having tight turn in. Maybe I'll just go stock MPSS in stock size or those ECS tires in stock size.
