They sure came longways and GM is doing a better job.
However, I still would not consider one. I have owned nothing but GM performance (LT1, LS1) cars during late 90s and early 2000's. My last one was a 2002 WS6. They were great cars for 1st 5K miles then started falling a apart. (I see that GM is STILL having rear diff issues with these cars.....same old story) Between the dealer experience, repeated quality issues and endless repairs I moved away from them. I still adore them though and this new guy sure looks like a beast!

great stats. too many sports cars out now.... hope there are enough buyers.
once you get into the 40k+ people will start looking at lux cars instead of a chevy. A lot of options open up @ 50k, especially when you consider leases and rates as well as monthly payment which is what people these days do when shopping for cars. Since few people buy their cars outright, it is going to be hard to justify a payment for the camaro ss vs a similar lux car.

Kudos to GM on the weight savings and improved interior
For $38k chevy I'm personally still quite fixated on a pre-modded c6z06. Badging/social stereotypes being what they are, I wouldn't give up my F80 to daily drive a Camaro, and if I'm getting a weekend only/fun car, stock SS trapping 116 for $38k is not extreme enough |

I know most people on this forum wouldn't ever consider a Chevy Camaro SS to be anything remotely competitive (overall) with a F8X, but let BMW be warned that it will be become more and more difficult to justify the exploding price of the M cars. If it were my money, I definitely would not take a Camaro SS over a F8X. I WOULD take the new GT350 over the F8X in a heartbeat. It's just not worth it for the BMW name. |

I've been looking at the new 6th Gen camaro and it seems like a pretty comparable car in grunt/speed/quickness. the interior is better. but guys who are placing orders are hitting 50k! that's with pickup truck seats. the 1Le is probably the one I would consider but obviously yhr jury is out and my 68k msrp m3 was only 63k out the door. that extra 10-15k goes a long way. I was considering a mustang gt or camaro ss to drop my debt a bit but I decided I'd just be losing too much (bigger & more accessible back seat, going UP in weight/size, down in interior environment comfort and actually feel like I'm sitting HIGHER in the coupe, same or worse performance, same or worse support for track day information sharing on forums, MPG way worse, etc etc).
I've decided I'm definitely keeping the m3. even the gt350 (non-r) is giving up a lot and not (if any) less expensive than my car. if I decide I want to go this route I'd probably go with the slower mustang GT with manual and Recaro and performance pack... only $35k, add ford racing suspension ($1300), maybe a cat back, still be under $40k and have a totally non lux car but still has some character and pretty inexpensive.

Sort of like how base 991 and GT4 are similar MSRP, but the GT4 is probably going to be cheaper to own in the end due to holding its value. |

You can picture Burt Reynolds sitting in the drivers seat with a cowboy hat and trademark chest hair. Too retro for me...

Carlos (the guy who left MotorTrend) or Jeremy Clarkson needs to do a 6th Gen Camaro vs GT350 Mustang comparison....I'd love to see these 2 cars compete on the track...and maybe throw in the M4 for good measure.
